Originally named Jamin Ben Raskin, is a notable American politician. Raskin is currently serving as the United States representative for Maryland’s 8th congressional district. He had been serving in the position for about five years, since 2017.
Jamie Raskin is a member of the Democratic party and he has served in the Maryland State Senate from 2007 to 2016.
Apart from being a politician, Raskin is also known for his work as an attorney. He has played some important part in the course of American politics. Rasjikn was one of the lead impeachment managers for the second impeachment of President Donald Trump following the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
It was on Wednesday that Jamie Raskin made an announcement about his health. In his statement, Raskin revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer. According to his statement, explained the condition was diffuse large B cell Lymphoma.
He also added that the disease was a serious one but it was a curable form of cancer and that most of the cases in his condition are excellent after about four months of treatment.

Born into a Jewish family in Washington D.C. on December 13, 1962, Jamie Raskin is the son of Barbara Reskin and Marcus Raskin. His father Marcus Raskin has served in the National Security Council as a former staff aide for President John F. Kennedy. His mother was a journalist and also a novelist.
Raskin attended Georgetown Day School and later he attended Harvard College. Raskin earned a bachelor’s degree from the college in political theory. Later in 1987, Raskin received a J.D degree magna cum laude from Harvard Law School.
After completing his education, Jamie Raskin took up the teaching profession. He used to be a constitutional law professor at the American University Washington College of Law. He taught in the position for almost 25 years.
Throughout his career, Jamie played a crucial part in building up establishments like Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project and he was one of the founders of the LL.M program on the law.
As his career was in law, he was a person who was very active in issues regarding social justice and civil rights. He has also worked in close association with organizations like Jesse Jackson’s National Rainbow Coalition, an organization that works for social justice and civil rights.
Jamie Raskin – Political Career
It was in 2006 that Jamie Raskin was elected as a Maryland State senator. Not only this but Raskin also took up positions like the majority whip for the senate, chairman of the Committee on Ethics Reform, and was also a member of the Judicial Proceedings Committee.
During his time as the Senator for the state of Maryland, Raskin brought in many decisions that led to the upliftment of the state in many manners.
Some of the most notable changes that he brought in include the bill brought to repeal the death penalty in Maryland, and the reformation of laws regarding the laws to legalize medical marijuana in Maryland he was also a strong advocate for legalizing same-sex marriage in the state of Maryland.
Raskin continued his service as the Senator for the ate from 2007 to 2016.
Jamie Ruskin had been serving in the United States House of Representatives for Maryland’s 8th Congressional district since 2017. The seat for the election was given up by fellow Democrat Chris Van Hollen. Chris served in the position before Raskin for about seven terms.
Some of the most notable innovations brought in by Raskin was the launch of the Congressional Freethought Caucus along with three other fellow Democrats in 2018. The organization was established to promote solutions based on reason and science and also to defend the character of secularism of the government.
On January 12, 2021, Jamie Raskin took up the position of impeachment manager for the senate trial for the second impeachment of then-president Donald Trump.

Jamie Raskin – Personal Life
Janie Ruskin’s wife Sarah Bloom Raskin is also a known person in the American political circle. She used to serve as the Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation from 2007 to 2010.
In 2010, Sarah took the position on the Federal Reserve Board as she was nominated by President Barack Obama. Sarah also served s the United States Deputy Secretary of the Treasury during the time period of 2014 to 2017.
The couple had three children from their marriage. Two of them are daughters, who are named Hanna and Tabitha, and their son Thomas. The family endured tragedy when their son Thomas passed away at the age of 25.
It was revealed by the couple that he ended his life and he was a victim of prolonged depression. Raskin wrote a book which is titled ‘Unthinkable: Trauma. Truth, and Trials of American Democracy’ which was published in 2022.
