The Havana Syndrome was first reported by US State Department employees stationed in Cuba in late 2016.
Those officials had been sent to Cuba as part of the opening of the ties between the two nations. Those growing connections were strained by the disease that began to appear on Cuban land.
Following the initial reports, similar symptoms have been reported by diplomats and intelligence professionals stationed worldwide. In several instances, the illness forced diplomats and officials to leave their active duty positions.
