In a tweet posted on Sunday, Twitter owner Elon Musk appeared to ask for Dr. Anthony Fauci to be charged with a crime while simultaneously making fun of those who post their gender pronouns.
Musk wrote on Twitter early Sunday, “My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci.” In addition, he shared a photoshopped image of the departing White House senior medical adviser whispering in President Biden’s ear with the phrase, “Just one more lockdown my king.”
Musk did not mention why he believed that Fauci, the public face of the American response to the COVID-19 outbreak, should face charges. Fauci has announced that he will retire at the end of the year from his role as head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and his position in the Biden administration.
Even though Musk’s tweet received about a half million likes in its first few hours online, health professionals like Peter Hotez, a vaccine researcher and professor of virology, defend Fauci’s role as the leader of the United States pandemic mitigation effort, and he urged Musk to take down the post.
Hotez reacted to his Tweet by saying that Dr. Fauci has only served our country and has committed no crimes. Meanwhile, Musk should be aware that Covid resulted in the tragic death of 200,000 Americans because of false information and statements that are anti-science. Then he asked Musk to take down the Tweet. Musk has not made any public comment in response to Hotez’s tweet.
Democratic representative from Minnesota, Dean Philips also criticized Much for targeting Fauci.
He reacted to Musk’s tweet by saying that he felt shame for him and added that Fauci had done many more things to save human lives in America than any other person in the world.
John Brennan, a former director of the CIA, referred to Fauci as a “national hero” and blamed Musk for spreading hatred.
According to Brennan, because of his kindness and numerous contributions to public health, Fauci is a national hero who will be cherished for centuries to come. Despite his commercial success, Musk will be known primarily for spreading hate and divisiveness in society. Musk may be wealthy, but lacks class, he added.
As the House of republicans accused the departing official of lying about supporting gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at a lab in Wuhan, China, Musk sent out his tweets.
The nation’s foremost authority on infectious diseases, who has served as the president’s top medical adviser since Ronald Regan, testified before Congress that although the NIH has financed research on bat coronaviruses, the virus had not been genetically altered to make it more contagious to people.
He has maintained that his reaction to the public health emergencies was based on science, not politics, and stated last month that he would certainly cooperate with any congressional investigation of his management of the pandemic.

Fauci has been hailed as a hero by some and criticized by others for his recommendations encouraging social distancing, the use of face masks, and vaccinations to defend against COVID-19 since he rose to prominence in the fight against the pandemic in early 2020.
He famously disagreed with former president Donald Trump, and Fauci spoke out against spreading false information about the virus and mitigation measures.
Earlier this week, Fauci responded to online trolls that harassed his wife and kids. He said he was unafraid of the attacks but added that it was very cowardly of someone to target his family.
Speaking about the abuse he experiences on the American podcast, Fauci claimed that after learning the family’s address and phone numbers, trolls harassed his wife and kids.
He claimed that he kept focused on his duty to the American public despite the abuse and threats.
While advising the government on the COVID-19 pandemic, first the Trump administration and later the Biden administration, Fauci became the focus of misinformation, rolling, and online conspiracies.
