One of the most look-forward women’s basketball players, Paige Bueckers was born on October 20, 2001, in Edina, Minnesota, Even though she was born in Edina, Bueckers grew up in St. Louis Park and right from her childhood, she showed an affinity towards sports and games.
Bueckers used to play baseball, soccer, and football along with basketball during her childhood days but she decided to focus on basketball by first grade.
Until she reached seventh grade, Bueckers was trained by her father in basketball. Paige always saw the images of players like LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Diana Taurasi, and Sue Bird as an inspiration for her to push forward and one day reaches their heights in her career.
Paige Bueckers attended Hopkins High School in Minnesota and she was a part of her school basketball team. She became a part of the Hopkin’s varsity team in eighth grade and by the end of the season, after a spectacular performance by Bueckers, she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
As for her high school basketball career, Bueckers played her first game of the freshman season for Hopkins High School on November 25, 2016. Bueckers was in great form all through the season and she was able to become one of the leading scorers and passers for the team.
It was during her senior season, on January 29, 2020, that Paige Buecjers got featured on the cover of Slam, which is an American basketball magazine that had been in circulation since 1994.
During that season, Bueckers was honored with different titles like Gatorade Female High School Athlete of the Year, Gatorade National Player of the Year, Minnesota Miss Basketball, and many more such titles. She also became the first three-time winner of the Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year.
Paige Bueckers – Recruitment And College Career
Bueckers was one of the most prestigious recruits and she ranked at top of the recruit from her class in 2020 by ESPN. After the recruitment, Bueckers made her announcement regarding her commitment to the University of Connecticut.
After her announcement, it was made clear by Buckers that one of the main reasons that she chose the team was due to Geno Auriemma, who was the head coach of the team.
Bueckers believed that the coach could help her in improving her skills. Another reason that she chose the team was the reputation and enthusiasm that the University had for women’s basketball.
Right from the beginning of her college career, Paige Bueckers became the leader of her team and with her addition to the team, Bueckers was able to guide her team to multiple wins.
Bueckers continued her legacy of outstanding performance throughout the season and won some major titles like the Big East Tournament title game and she even became the most outstanding player of the tournament.
In 2021, Bueckers was awarded the Best Female College Athlete ESPY Award. Her entire freshman career is considered to be one of the best in the history of UConn and also NCAA.
Paige Bueckers was affected by injury during her sophomore and junior years. Even though she had to sit out most of the season, she made appearances in a few games during her sophomore season and was also able to score for her team but the injury during her junior year was sidelined owing to a ligament injury.
Paige Bueckers – National Basketball Team Career
Paige Bueckers has represented the United States women’s basketball team at different international tournaments like the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Women’s Americas Championship, the 2018 FIBA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, and also at the 2019 FIBA Under 19 Women’s Basketball World Cup.
In all three games, Bueckers was able to guide and help win the gold medal; and in 2019, Paige Buekcers was named the most valuable player and she also made the All-Tournament Team. She also became the USA Basketball Female Athlete in the same year.
Paige Bueckers also represented the USA in the Summer Youth Olympics of 2018. The team was able to win a gold medal there too.
Paige Bueckers – Personal Life
Paige Bueckers is Bob Bueckers and Amy Fuller’s daughter. Her father is a software engineer. He used to play basketball in high school and he used to train Piaget until she reached seventh grade. Her mother was also an athlete and she represented the University of St Thomas in track and field events.
Her parents got divorced when Paige Bueckers was just three years old. She remained with her father. Her father remarried and had a son named Drew, who is biracial. She also has two other siblings – her younger sister Lauren and her younger brother Ryan.

Paige Bueckers grew up as a Christina and she attributes her good performances on the court to a blessing from God. She is also an advocate for racial injustices and has been a part of protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
