Pelican's Zion Williamson Is Injured And Ruled Out

Zion Williamson, one of the youngest NBA basketball player have been ruled out by New Orleans Pelicans owing to the injuries that he had contracted. He suffered a right hamstring strain before exiting in the fourth quarter.

As per the medical records, he would not play for a minimum of three weeks. Pelicans on a game with the Philadelphia 76ers had faced a loss of 120 -111.

Zion Williamson: Bio

Zion Williamson is the fourth youngest NBA player who plays in the position of a power forward for the New Orleans Pelicans. He has a height of 6 ft and 6 inches and has a weight of 284 lb. 

Williamson has won numerous awards and has many highlights in his career. He is bestowed with the titles NABC Freshman of the Year (2019), ACC Athlete of the Year (2019), ACC Player of the Year (2019), ACC Rookie of the Year (2019), McDonald’s All-American (2018), and

South Carolina Mr. Basketball (2018). He has won awards such as Wayman Tisdale Award (2019), and  Karl Malone Award (2019).

Zion Williamson: Age And Background

Zion Lateef Williamson was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, U.S. Born on 6th July 2000, he is 22 years old. 

His father Lateef Williamson served as a football defensive lineman and was a former High School All American of 1993. Sharonda Sampson, his mother was a teacher of health and physical education in middle school. She was also a sprinter at Livingstone.

Although he was born in North Carolina his family later relocated to South Carolina and settled in Florence. His parents got separated when he was five years old and he was raised by his mother and her husband, his stepfather, Lee Anderson, a former college basketballer of the Clemson Tigers Men’s Basketball team for Clemson University. 

He was named Zion by his mother referring to the Christian holy book of the Bible, adopting the name of the location Mount Zion nearby Jerusalem. It was advice from her mother to give him a name that would imply that he is something extra special. 

He was a determined young kid. At just the age of five, he admired becoming a professional college basketballer. Later when he turned nine he started to wake up at 5 every morning and to attend training. Sharonda Sampson, his mother was his greatest cheerleader and his coach.

She coached him to compete in youth leagues such as Sumter Falcons on the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) circuit. 

Lee Anderson, his stepfather who was a former college basketballer also had a non-negligible part in his basketball training. His position was that of a point guard when he was in middle school. 

Zion Williamson: Education

Willaimson was an attendee of the Spartanburg Day School, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was as well a part of soccer and football teams. In the football team, he played in the position of quarterback. 

Zion Williamson attended college at Duke University representing the Duke Blue Devil’s Men’s Basketball team under coach Krzyzewski.

The team competes for the college in  Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and  NCAA Division I college basketball. He played 33 games for Duke during the period from 2018 to 2019. He had 22.6 points per game.

Zion Williamson: Professional Career

Zion Williamson is a member of the New Orleans Pelicans, a U.S. professional basketball team competing in the NBA. Williamson was selected by New Orleans Pelicans in 2019 by drafting him as the first pick in the NBA draft of 2019. Following this, he was officially signed by the Pelicans. In his initial eight games, he scored a minimum of 20 points in four consecutive games.

Since 2019 he is a professional basketballer for the Pelicans and has played 24 games in the year 2019 – 2020 with 22.5 points per game (PPG). In the same year, he scored .429 in 3-point game percentage (3P%) which is his career high.

In the successive year, 2020 – 21 he played 61 games for New Orleans with 27.0 points per game (PPG).

This is the highest point per game in his entire career. In the same year, he had a free throw percentage of .698 (FT%), 7.2 rebounds per game (RPG), 3.7 assists per game (APG), .9 steals per game (SPG), .6 blocks per game (BPG), 33.8 minutes per game (MPG), and .611 field goal percentage (FG%), all of which are listed as his career highs.

In 2020 in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, he announced that he would take a pledge to pay the salaries of every employee in the Smoothie King Center, an indoor arena in New Orleans.

He pledged that he would continue the act for 30 days. Other fellow basketballers also showed initiative to do this in order to financially aid the workers of the arena as the 2019 – 2020 season of NBA was canceled and the workers were struggling to combat. 

Zion Williamson: Net Worth

As of the latest reports, Zion Williamson has a net worth that is estimated at above 30 million US Dollars. He has a monthly income of more than 1,50,000 US Dollars and a salary of more than 2 million US Dollars. His income also comes from the million-dollar agreements that he has with sports and international brands.

In 2019, Williamson and Air Jordan, a US Company Nike produced professional basketball shoe brand, signed together a deal. As per the records, the agreement extends up to 5 years and is worth of 75 million US Dollars.

The news of the agreement came out as a record deal as it is ranked as the second-biggest rookie shoe deal ever in history. The first biggest shoe deal is the one LeBron James signed for 90 million US Dollars back in the year 2003.
