The lead singer of the popular band Cage Elephant, Matt Schultz was found with two loaded guns at a hotel in Lower Manhattan on Thursday night. Matt Schultz was arrested by the police on Thursday in New York and charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Police said that they discovered the weapons in the hotel room of the singer of the popular Grammy-winning band. On Thursday night, he was arrested in the Bowery Hotel room for having handguns with him.
An employee at the Bowery Hotel, where Schultz was staying, claims to have seen him carry a weapon into the restroom on the ground floor on January 4. Later police were informed and they showed up at the hotel on January 5th. When police detained Matt Schultz, he confessed that he had two .45 calibre firearms, a Sig Sauer, and a Smith & Wesson. But after the arrest, he claimed that he couldn’t recall if these weapons were still in the hotel.
When a court-signed warrant allowed police to search Schultz’s hotel room, the police arrested him and took him into custody. The police discovered the weapons in his room and it was all loaded. Police stated that all these weapons were illegally owned by the singer. Police added that he appeared drunk at the time they arrested him.
The Cage Elephant’s 39-year-old singer was arrested for felony criminal possession of a handgun after spending the night at the 9th precinct in Manhattan. He apparently went to Bellevue Hospital on January 6th to get some essential medication and was then brought back a few hours later.
He has no other criminal records before. The authority has reached out to his representatives to request an explanation.
Since beginning in 2006, Cage the Elephant has put out five albums, the most recent of 2019, Social Cues was awarded the Grammy for Best Rock Album 2019.
