John Fetterman’s Net Worth, Bio, And Everything Else You Need To Know

John Karl Fetterman is an American politician who will represent Pennsylvania as a U.S. senator. He is a Democrat and has served as Pennsylvania’s 34th lieutenant governor since the year 2019.  He served as Braddock’s mayor from 2006 until 2019. John Fetterman beat Mehmet Oz, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania, and won the election in 2022.

Fetterman started working initially in the insurance business. He studied finance at Albright College before earning an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He then joined AmeriCorps and went to Harvard University to get a Master of Public Policy degree.

Fetterman’s work with AmeriCorps led him to Braddock, where he moved in 2004 and ran for mayor the following year. As mayor, Fetterman tried to bring life back to the old steel town through art and programs for young people.

Fetterman ran for the Senate seat in Pennsylvania in 2016, but he came in third in the Democratic primary. He made a 2018 bid for Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor. He beat incumbent Mike Stack in the Democratic primary, along with other candidates, and won the election with Governor Tom Wolf.

During his time in office, Fetterman got attention from all over the country for his work to legalize marijuana statewide and for speaking out against President Trump’s false claims of election fraud in Pennsylvania.

In 2021, Fetterman declared his intention to run for the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate in 2022. He got 59% of the votes for the Democratic nomination and beat Republican Mehmet Oz in the general election.

Fetterman supports healthcare as a right, criminal justice reform, raising the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour, and legalizing cannabis. He is generally thought of as a progressive.

John Fetterman Bio

Karl and Susan Fetterman had Fetterman in 1969 at Reading Hospital in West Reading, Pennsylvania. When he was born, his parents were both 19 years old and had just gotten married.

Later, they relocated to York, Pennsylvania, where Fetterman was raised and his father was made a partner in an insurance firm. Fetterman was raised in a posh York neighborhood. His parents, both Republicans, were very conservative.

Fetterman says he had a privileged upbringing and that he “sleepwalked” through his young adult years. He played football for four years in college and planned to take over his father’s business one day. Fetterman got his bachelor’s degree in finance from Albright College, where his father also went to school.

In 1993, he got his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Connecticut. Fetterman worked for Chubb as a risk-management underwriter in Pittsburgh for two years.

Fetterman’s best friend died in a car accident while he was a student at UConn. This changed Fetterman’s life and career path in important ways.

After his friend died, Fetterman joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and was matched with an eight-year-old boy in New Haven, Connecticut, whose father had died of AIDS and whose mother was terminally ill with the same condition.

Fetterman says that when he was a Big Brother, he became “obsessed with the idea of the random lottery of birth,” and he promised the boy’s mother that he would continue to watch out for the boy after she died. In 1995, he joined AmeriCorps, which had just started up.

He was sent to teach GED students in Pittsburgh. Later, he went to Harvard University’s Harvard Kennedy School and got a Master of Public Policy in 1999.

John Fetterman Personal Life

Fetterman is married to activist Gisele Barreto Fetterman, whose real name is Gisele Almeida Barreto. Almeida, who used to live in Newark, New Jersey, and was an undocumented immigrant, heard about Fetterman’s work as mayor of Braddock and sent him a letter in 2007.

Fetterman asked Almeida to come to visit him in Braddock, and a year later, the two of them got married.

The couple has three kids and lives with their rescue dogs, Levi and Artie, in a building that used to be a car lot. The family has decided not to live in the State House, which is where the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania lives.

In the fall of 2020, while John was being interviewed, Gisele Fetterman posted a picture of the family’s home. The photo went viral because of Levi’s funny expression in the picture.

The next day, a Levi fan who had nothing to do with him set up a Twitter account in his name. This person later made friends with Gisele Fetterman, but they are still unknown.

More than 25,000 people follow Levi and Artie on their individual Twitter accounts. Levi, a mixed-breed dog, was also in “Dogs of the Year 2021,” a TV special on the CW. In July 2021, the York Daily Record said that Levi pushed for the state license fee for dog owners to go up. This would help pay for the Pennsylvania bureau that enforces dog laws, like dealing with dangerous dogs and exposing puppy mills.

Fetterman is known for the way he dresses, which is very casual. He wears a sweatshirt and shorts all the time. He only has one suit, which he wears when he is in charge of the Pennsylvania Senate, where there is a dress code.

Allegheny County sued Fetterman and his non-profit, Braddock Redux, for not paying their taxes in 2008. Fetterman and his nonprofit had a $25,000 tax lien put on them. In 2012, Fetterman paid the back taxes that he owed.

John Fetterman Net Worth

John Fetterman is thought to have a net worth of about $800,000. According to John Fetterman’s financial report dated May 2021, the value of his assets ranges from $717,000 to $1.58 million.

However, a portion of those assets—between $450,000 and $1 million—are held in trusts and bank accounts for his children. His salary from the state government is $217,610 per year. Official information about John Fetterman’s net worth in 2022 has not been released yet.

John Fetterman Career In Politics

Braddock Mayor

John moved to Braddock for good in 2004. In 2006, he became the part-time mayor of the city and the full-time director of the youth program. He became the city’s full-time mayor in 2006, and he served in that capacity until 2019 when he was appointed Pennsylvania‘s lieutenant governor.

John made the decision to forgo taking any other employment while he was mayor, despite the fact that the position only paid $150 per month. A majority of people act in this way. No error occurred. As mayor of Braddock, John received assistance from his parents. According to what he claimed in his financial filings, they only handed him roughly $54,000 in 2015.

2013 saw John pay his sister $1 to buy an aged Chevy dealership. It was then converted into a house by him and his wife Gisele. The sister bought the house in 2007 for $70,000.

Senate Campaign

In 2016, Fetterman ran for the Senate but lost. In 2018, he was chosen to be Pennsylvania’s Lieutenant Governor. As the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, he made $217,610 a year.

In 2021, John said he would run for Senate again. He went on to get nearly 60% of the votes for the Democratic nomination.

After Dr. Oz won the Republican primary, the two started to compete against each other. During a lot of 2022, Fetterman and Oz fought on social media in a sometimes nasty way. Most people would agree that Fetterman’s team did a much better job of making Oz look like a dumb, bumbling outsider.
