Ginnie Newhart the wife of the American comedian Bob Newhart dies shortly after the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary. She was aged 82 at the time of her death. Mrs. Newhart was fighting a long-term illness and finally decided death to win.
The news of the death was announced by Jerry Digney, the publicist. He said that Ginnie Newhart aged 82 the beloved wife for the past 60 years to the comedy legend Bob Newhart has passed away after a long sickness. It was known from his announcement that she had died on Sunday.
The news was also reconfirmed as the actor cum comedian Bob shared the news of her demise on his official Twitter account. He wrote that his family has lost their beloved Ginnie Quinn Newhart who was a wife, a mother, and a grandmother.
He continued that the family suffered the loss on Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, and that her death comes after a long battle she fought with the illness that she had. The Twitter post also read that she was the family’s rock and that all of them will miss her terribly.
Bob has always been proud of his wife. They met many years back on a blind date. They were set by Bob’s friend Buddy Hackett. Buddy also knew Ginnie and he was the one who thought that Bob and she would make a perfect couple.
He actually told Bob that he knew the perfect girl for him. And that at that moment she was going out with someone else but it does not matter as she was meant for her. He said that it was not unusual for good girls to be stuck with the wrong guys.
He even said that the guy she was going out with then was not the one for her and that she belongs to his friend, Bob. Buddy said that he will arrange for them on a blind date and they, the two of them will meet and will go on many dates.
Then they will fall in love and they will get married. He said that the couple will have kids and that they would end up naming one of the kids by his own name. Bob and Ginnie did all these their life turned out exactly how Buddy said.
And of course one of their kids is named Buddy. The couple has four kids altogether. Their marriage has always been celebrated as a successful marriage in industry, and everyone has always wanted to know what the secret behind this marriage was. The couple has many times said that it was laughter.
They shared a lot of laughs. The actor for whom being a comedian was a major part of his career was actually humorous in real life too. His wife was not on the stage to share jokes but she always colored his life with humor and fun.
Recently in 2022, Bob said that the marriages of comedians have always lasted for a long time, at least that was what he saw in his life and around him. It does not matter how stormy life gets they will last long, he even said that he attributes the success of his marriage to laughter.
Years ago in 2005, Ginnie was speaking in an interview and she said that comedians are just too much fun to be with. She also said that they just seem longevity in their marriage. When Bob was speaking in the 2022 interview he was not aware of the fact that his wife has said such a thing earlier.

Of course, he had watched the interview back then but his interview was not a follow-up on this or he was not just copying her words. He was genuine in what he said, and what we may understand is that both of them were telling the truth.
Bob recalled how his wife supported him all through the years. She always stood with him, in the literal sense. Whenever he had a show she stood with him in the dressing room. The life of comedians are not that simple, right?
Sometimes audience might not laugh at a well-planned joke. He said she used to tell him that his joke was actually very funny the people did not laugh because there was some kind of eros with the sound system and they could not properly hear it.
He then will tell back he knows there was nothing wrong with the sound system, it was that, the audience just did not laugh.
Ginnie, initially, thought her husband would eventually end up in a career like teaching or something more sophisticated. But she noticed that he was starting to enjoy his career as a comedian. She remembered that in the beginning, his career was not a walk o a cake for him. But he gradually improvised.
She realized that he was doing something that was in his blood. She has taken up the roles of many different things in order to support him. She had danced on a stage show, and she took him from his unsatisfactory career and supported him to pursue what he really wanted.
Bob said that his wife was a blessing in his life, that he never knew he needed.
