One of the most anticipated award nights that celebrates the finest creations and achievements in the film and entertainment field, on January 15, 2023, the 28th Critics’ Choice Award ceremony took place at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
The award is considered the best creation in the field of film and television in 2022. One of the significant changes in the award night was the change in the host. While actor Taye Diggs hosted the show for the past four consecutive years, the award night this year was hosted by actress/comedian Chelsea Handler.
While A24’s ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ won the award for the best picture, actor Brandon Fraser for the movie ‘The Whale’ and actress Cate Blanchett for the film ‘Tar’ took home the award for the best actor and actress respectively.
Another one of the most striking at the awards was the Indian movie ‘RRR’ which was directed by popular Indian director S.S. Rajamouli. The movie won two awards on the night, making a significant mark on its debut at the Critics’ Choice 2023 awards.
The movie was one of the biggest hits in India and received global recognition, with some of the songs from the movie making it big in the international circle.
‘RRR’ received a total of five nominations in different categories like Best Foreign Language Film, Best Song, Best Picture, Best Director, and also for Best Visual Effects. The movie was able to win the award in categories like Best Foreign Language Film and also for Best Song.
In the best Foreign Language Film, the movie competed with other nominations like Netflix’s ‘All quiet on the Western Front’ and ‘Bardo, False Chronicles of a Handful of Truths’ along with Amazon Studio’s ‘Argentina, 1985’ and Mubi’s ‘Decision to Leave.’
As for the Best Song category, there were other five nominations which included songs like ‘Lift Me Up’ from Marvel Studios’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ ‘New Body Rhumba’ from Netflix’s ‘White Noise,’ ‘Carolina’ from Sony Pictures ‘Where the Crawdads Sing,’ ‘Ciao Papa’ from Netflix’s ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’ and finally ‘Hold My Hand’ from Paramount Pictures’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’
The award for Best Foreign Language was accepted by the director of the movie S.S. Rajamouli. He was accompanied to the stage by his son SS Karthikeya, to accept the award.
As for the award for Best Song, it was received by MM Keeravani, who is the music director of the movie. One of the interesting facts about the connection between the respective winners, that they were both relatives, was later shared by director Rajamouli.
The movie ‘RRR’ was one of the biggest hit movies in the Indian movie industry, which also left a significant mark on the global audience. The movie made the headlines a few days back, where it won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
For the Golden Globes 2023, the same song competed with nominations like ‘Carolina’ from ‘Where the Crawdads Sing,’ ‘Ciao Papa’ from ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,’ ‘Lift Me Up’ from ‘Black Panther; Wakanda Forever’, and ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’

‘RRR’ is a 2022 Indian movie which is originally done in the regional language Telugu. The movie was directed by S.S. Rajamouli. He also wrote the movie along with V.Vijyendra Prasad.

The movie ‘RRR’ is based on the story of real-life Indian revolutionaries and their fictional friendship and their joint attack against British rule in India.
The movie is set in the 1920s when the Indian subcontinent was under the rule of the British. The movie has featured extensive sets which reflect the period in which the movie was set.
With such a high standard of making, it is regarded as the most expensive Indian movie ever made to date.
The movie which was made on a budget of approximately $72 million went on to be the third highest-grossing Indian film ever and the second highest-grossing Telugu movie. While most of the movie was filmed in India, it also had quite a few sequences that were shot in locations like Ukraine and Bulgaria.
Apart from the stunning visual effects and epic making, the movie also showcased an array of some of the biggest stars in the Indian movie industry like N.T Rama Rao Jr, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, and few a international actors like Olivia Morris, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson and so on.
The soundtrack ‘Naatu Naatu’ has also been shortlisted in the Best Original Song category for the 2023 Academy Awards.
