911, the United States emergency number received a call from Alex Murdaugh. He said that he has found his wife, Maggie, Margaret Murdaugh, and son, Paul Murdaugh lying dead near the dog kennel of the family in their hunting lodge estate in Colleton county, in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina.
According to the 911 officials, his voice was shivering and he talked as if he was shocked to his core. He said in the call that he had been gone and she had just come back and that was when he saw the dead bodies of his beloved wife and son.

Randolph Murdaugh III, the father of Alex Murdaugh, passed away. He was 81 years old at the time of the death which happened at their home in Hampton County of South Carolina. It was reported that he was suffering from a number of health ailments related to his age.
So far the death of the father has not been liked to the case or the trial but it is also reviewed and studied as it happened in the day nearby to the criminal activities committed by Alex Murdaugh.

Shortly after a truck passed by him and the parked vehicle and turned around. Someone who was inside the truck opened fire on him. On the head.

Police authorities stated that Murdaugh had only a superficial wound in the head and some skin was abrased from the injured part. Immediately after the accident, he was taken to the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.

Alex Murdaugh gave a public statement in which he informed about his resignation from a law firm run by his family. He also disclosed he was about to enter rehab and expressed remorse for a lot of decisions that he had made.
Later in the same day, Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth & Detrickhe, his own firm released a statement that portrayed him as having misappropriated company funds.

Alex Murdaugh’s law license was suspended by the Supreme Court of South Carolina for an indefinite period of time.

Police authorities stated that the roadside shooting in which Murdaugh was injured was a fraud act that he paid for. The shooter was identified as 61-year-old Curtis Edward Smith and was arrested.
Muedaugh had arranged the shooting incident so that he could commit fraud in a 10 million US Dollars insurance policy, which his son, Buster would have collected.

Richard Harpootlian, the attorney of Alex Murdaugh stated that his client was going through a stage of depression and was addicted to opioids as he was still recovering from the trauma of the loss of his wife and son.

23 charges were indicted on him that included computer crimes and breach of trust with fraudulent intent. His total charges were 71.

A claim with legal support was filed against the deceased Maggie and Paul Murdaugh by the family of the killed Mallory Beach. She was killed in a 2019 boat accident and the boat was controlled by Paul.
