When prosecutors are focusing on political candidates, the DOJ normally walks carefully to avoid any actions that can be seen as politicized.
Trump’s 2024 Republican primary opponent and the likelihood of a rematch with Biden are both unknown. Although he hasn’t declared, many observers believe Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is considering a run for president. However, most polls indicate that Trump would open the GOP primary with a double-digit lead over DeSantis. Although Biden hasn’t formally declared his desire to run for office again, he has stated that he will do so.
