In the hope of helping its citizens cope with the growing economic demand, counties and towns in different states are planning to distribute relief payments. Some programs are planning to issue payments as early as January.
Here are the available details of 11 programs that aim to help people like low-income households, seniors, artists, parents, and young adults.
1. Alexandria, Virginia – $500
The city of Alexandria has formed an initiative which is named ‘ARISE’ in order to help their citizens with the growing living cost. The authorities plan to distribute an amount to their citizens who are struggling financially. ARISE is supposed to spend around $3 million on people who are in need of help.
According to the program, it will provide $500 per month for people who are struggling financially. The program cannot be availed by everyone. In order to be considered for the program, the residents should first register for a lottery.
It will be the lottery that will decide the fate of the applicants and determine whether they are eligible for the fund or not.
Also, to apply for the scheme, there is a financial limit set by the government in terms of annual income. As per the regulations, the applicant should have an annual income at or below the median income average of the city, which is $71,150 for a family of four annually.
ARISE aims to provide financial assistance to around 175 applicants who will be selected randomly from the eligible applications. Once selected, they will be entitled to the money and will receive this payment for 24 months.
The time to submit the application for this program was closed in November and it is intended to start distributing the payments in January.
2. Evanston, Illinois -$500
The city of Evanston has also launched a similar program to provide financial assistance to its residents. The city has given form to a Guaranteed Pilot program. The program aims at providing financial support to 150 of its residents with a payment of $500.
They will receive the payment for about 12 months. In order to apply, the residents had to follow a few criteria but the finalist for the benefit was selected randomly from the eligible applications.
Some of the requirements set by the authorities for their citizens to apply for this program include being at or below 250 percent of the federal poverty line and not only that, but they should also come under any one of the three categories that follow.
They should be between 18 to 24 years of age, or else they should be over the age of 64. If not any of these two, they must be an undocumented member of their community. Those who have qualified for the application and have been selected for the program will receive their money on a prepaid debit card.
3. New York – $1,000
The Creatives Rebuild New York will continue to support the artists in the state through their finely devised program which has a budget of $43.2 million. The program is supposed to help the artist for a year and a half.
The initiative was first formed with the aim of helping the artists of New York state during the time of COVID-19. The pandemic affected the artists’ severely and many of them found it very difficult to keep up. The new phase of the program had been helping the needy since November 17.
Artists are being paid a sum of $1,000 per month and this will continue for 18 months. There were a total of around 22,000 applications and the finalists who received the benefits were selected in a random order for the eligible applications.
4. Cook County, Illinois – $500
The residents of Cook county, Illinois were also given the chance to participate in a lottery that would give them the chance to receive a $500 payment over the time period of two years.
According to the statement from the authorities, the program has a total budget of $42 million and around 3,250 individuals are estimated to participate in the program which will last over two years. The fund for the program is received from the cannabis revenue of the county.
5. California – $1,050
The Middle-Class Refund program will be assisting their residents by providing them with a payment of $1,050 to help them cope with the inflation. As of now, more than 25 million people who live in California have benefitted from the program.
Around $7.5 million have been distributed as a part of the program to the citizens and those who have not yet received their payment are expected to get it by January.
The citizen, who has changed their bank information after the tax return of 2902 will receive a debit card which will be mailed to them between December 17 and January 14.
6. Idaho – $300
If you are a resident of Idaho and have submitted your 2020 and 2021 tax returns then you might be eligible for a tax rebate. The rebate amount will be either 10 percent of the tax amount on your 2020 income or $300.
Whichever is the higher one of these two, then you will be receiving the higher amount. Idaho had been giving out tax rebates to its citizens since September and is expected to continue through the early months of this year too. People who have filed their tax returns by 31 December 2022 are eligible for the rebate.
7. Madison, Wisconsin – $500
The low-income households of Madison, Wisconsin have also started to receive financial assistance of $500 monthly. The houses that have participated in the program are expected to complete a survey to understand whether the program was a success or not.
Just like most such programs, the households which wished to be a part of the program have to qualify for some criteria, they should be residents of Madison, they should have at least one child, and also should have an income that is less than 200 percent of the federal poverty line.
8. Colorado – $750
The Colorado Cash Back programs allowed a majority of Colorado residents to earn the benefit of tax rebates. According to the information, individual files will receive a tax rebate amount of $750 while joint filers will receive a rebate of $1,500.
Those who have submitted their tax returns and filed an extension before October 17 can expect to receive their rebates before January 31.
9. New Mexico – $250
The two tax rebates issued by New Mexico are divided into three separate payments. People are eligible for the tax rebate if they have filed their 2021 income tax return by May 2023. Single filers will receive the first payment which will be $250 and they also should have an adjusted gross income of less than $75,000.
As for joint filers, the rebate money can be expected to be $500 if their adjusted gross income is less than $150,000.

10. South Carolina – $800
The concerned authorities of South Carolina agave approved $1 billion for tax rebates earlier and the first issue of the rebates has been distributed to deserving applicants.
The initial round of payment was $800 and it was distributed in mid – October. The residents of South Carolina who files their tax returns before February 15 will be eligible for the second round of issue of rebates.
11. Pennsylvania – $650
The residents of Pennsylvania are eligible for rebates of property taxes if they have paid rent in 2021. The amount of the rebate will depend on whether you are eligible for supplemental rebates.
According to your eligibility, the rebate amount will range from $650 to$975.
Also, it should be kept in mind that house owners who have an income of more than $35,000 annually are not eligible for the rebate, and renters who have an annual income of less than $15,000 are eligible for the rebate.
