The co-founder of the Salt Life clothing company, Troy Hutto, admitted guilt last Thursday to a charge of manslaughter in the death of his 18-year-old girlfriend in 2020. The court ordered that they give him a 12-year prison term.
According to reports, in October 2020, Michael Troy Hutto fatally shot 18-year-old Lora Grace Duncan and claimed it was an accident.
The Rivera Beach Police Department was called to the Hilton Hotel on Thursday, October 29, 2020, in the morning to check on Lora Duncan.
Burton Duncan, Lora Duncan’s father, told the police that he hadn’t spoken to her since Sunday morning. He claimed to have followed her phone and found evidence that she was with her boyfriend Hutto at the hotel.
According to reports, Burton Duncan told the police that Troy Hutto gave drugs to his daughter to keep her drowsy.
The police officers along with his father and the staff at the hotel, opened the door when they arrived. As soon as they opened the door, a distinct odor of decomposition arose from the corridor.
According to the reports from police, a woman’s body was discovered on the bathroom floor, drenched in blood and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the stomach.
The hotel room was registered in the name of Troy Hutto. Duncan’s father claimed that his daughter was in a romantic relationship with Hutto. Hutto was not in the room when the police arrived and found Duncan, but he left his wallet and ID behind.
According to the police, surveillance video showed Hutto leaving the hotel with a backpack before he left in his car. A lookout notice was immediately issued for Hutto.
Soon after, the St. Johns County Police office was notified that Hutto was at a BP gas station. He had overdosed the day before.
Hutto was discovered in an illegally parked car outside a gas station in St. Augustine by police, who then took him to a Jacksonville hospital the day before.
The affidavit states that Hutto was discovered twitching, making delusional comments, and crying as his eyes were sliding into the back of his head while walking into a store.
