Bored Apes is getting into some exciting collaboration projects as they have announced an upcoming Dungeon & Dragons-inspired Web3 game named “The Glimmering,” which is said to feature McNeil’s Mutant Apes.
Hours ago, the game’s developer, Grpnr, revealed that via their diverse partnership with notable Web3 entrepreneur Jimmy McNelis, aka jimmy. eth, they will bring several Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT characters into the game, specifically in nemesis characters.
Mutant Apes will be reimagined with respect to the needs of their roles so that they may fit into the artificial world in the game’s scenario. Lead Artist of Gripnr Justin “Angryblue” is already in charge of everything, including character transitions.
As a result, Gripnr will come up with a set of derivative NFTs that are solely based on the characters of Mutant Ape. As per the leaked information, only the transform would be featured in the game to enhance the experience for the gamers.
Meanwhile, McNelis, who co-founded the Gallery of Digital Arts, a trusted source for leading contemporary digital artists, told Decrypt that it would be great to turn his Mutant Apes into villains in a role-playing game.
However, while he expressed his excitement, he further added that the opportunity presented itself and he didn’t deny it.
In addition to it, the Avatars profile picture 2020 collection founder added that he adored role-playing games, especially those in the fantasy genre, and he unveiled that he used to root for its oft-memorable villains as well.
In light of the current news, McNelis asserted that Mutant Apes are the right choice to play those villains as according to him, “Mutants look like bag guys.”
Not only McNelis but also Gripnr Lead Designer Stephen Radney had a similar opinion when it came to the adaptability and potency of Mutant Apes.
Following the confirmation of the collaboration, he said that Mutant Apes would go well with the game’s “fantasy world of Asuwa,” which mainly parachutes through “magical and supernatural elements.”
However, Radney doesn’t want to “spoil the story by overly detailing” how the creators are going to connect the dots between the original Mutant Apes and their desired ones.
Although he seemed sure about how efficient their vision would turn out, he is unwilling to divulge extra information about the upcoming battle between “goblins and bastard baboons.”
As far as McNelis is concerned, this would be the latest move he made to license out his owned Apes for other creative projects. Moreover, he is also the owner of Bored Apes used for the Kingship virtual band project, and in the recent past, he provided the NFT holders with commercialization rights as well.

In a conversation with Decrypt, McNelis opened up about his interest in learning more about commercial rights with NFTs. He then went on to credit Yuga assets for providing him with enough opportunities that enabled him to “make some cool ideas.”
The Mutant Apes was previously launched in August 2021 as a spinoff of the well-accepted Bored Apes collection. Ever since there have been many Mutant Apes and their holders were recently granted a unique “Mutant Serum” that would help alter their existing artwork into modified NFT.
Apart from that, Yuga Labs, one of the ApeCoin contributors, sold an additional 10,000 fresh Mutant Ape NFTs. As per the derivations made from CryptoSlam, the collection has generated around $2 billion worth of trading volume by now.
The Glimmering has also raised an early funding of $2.5 billion in 2022 as the world is ecstatic to see how Gripnr is attempting to bridge the gap between tradition, physician, and digital components of games, with a single green card in his pocket- the NFT characters. In that context, The Glimmering is the first game from that particular studio.
But a short while ago, the studio was baffled when Dungeons and Dragons IP owner Wizards of the Coast hinted about their plans to ban NFTs.
Luckily, they canceled such plans after receiving major backlash within the blockchain. Instead of cancellation, Wizards chose to put the content of Dungeons & Dragons under a Creative Commons license.
So now, the creators can implement as much derivative work as possible with no fear of their license getting revoked someday.
Finally, The Glimmering is set to commence on March 30 and the players can easily get hold of the game as they have already disclosed that each player’s progress would be safely recorded within the chain, enabling them to play with ease.
