KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA (https://lifestyleug.com/) — General Kahinda Otafiire , Minister of Internal Affairs, has denied reports that Major General Jack Bakasumba has been appointed deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Major General Jack Bakasumba, who is currently the chief of joint staff for the Uganda Police, was reported to have been appointed deputy IGP last night.
According to Otafiire, Bakasumba only assumed the role of deputy Inspector General of Police after Major General Paul Lokech passed away this year (21 August 2021, aged 55).

It has been reported by some online publications that Bakasumba had replaced the late Paul Lokech, and that’s where Otafiire’s clarification comes from.
Otafiire says when a fighter dies, the next in line takes over his role in an acting capacity, as Bakasumba did.
“When a fighter falls the next in line takes over. I didn’t say Bakasumba was appointed deputy IGP. I said he’s doing the work of the deputy IGP because he’s next in line which makes common sense. In the Forces you cannot afford to have vacuum, when one goes off the next in line automatically assumes duties of his superior. He’s just doing the job of a deputy IGP because in the Forces you never have vacuum but he’s not substantively appointed deputy IGP,” Gen Otafiire said.
Farouk Kirunda, Deputy Press Secretary of the president, tweeted Sunday that the president has not appointed a substantive deputy to the office of Inspector General of Police.
