Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the nation bids farewell. He gave his final briefing on Tuesday to the reporters.
White House Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, introduced him to the podium and said that he is stronger and healthier because of his leadership.
Dr. Fauci broached the idea that Americans should get up-to-date on their COVID and flu shots ahead of winter. His final pitch was about the safety and efficacy of the COVID vaccines.
He said that his final message that he is giving to the people of America is to get updated on COVID shots for their own safety, for that of their family, as soon as possible, to protect themselves, their family, and their community.
He led the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) as its director. He is a physician at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has been serving the American public health sector in various roles for over fifty years. He is the Chief Medical Advisor to the U.S. President since the term of President Ronald Reagan.
He has made valuable contributions to immunodeficiency diseases as well as HIV/AIDS research. He has been a strong presence throughout the WhiteHouse briefings the entire time of the global COVID pandemic.
He was the scientific check of virus musings to President Donald Trump in 2020. It was President Joe Biden who upgraded him to the President’s pandemic personal adviser.
Fauci will be retiring at the end of this year after his service that ran over a period of five decades.
In a comment to the reporter’s question, he said that he’d leave it to others to remember his service in the government but that he has given all he had got for the decades.
He said that he thinks what he has accomplished in his 54 years at the NIH and his 38 years as the director of NIAID, although COVID was really important, it was just a fragment of the total 40 years that he has been doing it.
He continued that he would let other people judge the value of his accomplishments or not but what he would like is for people to remember what he has done every day of all those years, that is he had given everything that he had and he has never left anything on the field.
Dr. Ashish Jha, another top advisor of Joe Biden, and Dr. Fauci met together on Tuesday to discuss the need for Americans to get the bivalent COVID shot.
Jha said that the bottom line is that we are doing everything we can in the next six weeks to help families get their updated COVID shots by the end of the year since it is the most effective protection for the upcoming winter.
Dr. Fauci was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008, Public Welfare Medal in 2021, and many other awards. In 2021 he was honored with The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
In a remarkable comment he said that he does not want anybody to get hospitalized, he does not want anybody to die from COVID and whether one is a far-right Republican or far-left Democrat would not make any difference to him.
Republicans after taking control of the House in the midterm elections have hinted that they want to investigate Fauci’s role in overseeing the government’s response to COVID.
There are possibilities of Fauci being called to testify before Congress. Regarding this he responded that he has no trouble in testifying, we could defend and explain and stand by everything that we had said, so he has nothing to hide.
