Azawi is a Multi-talented singer, songwriter, and recording artist from Uganda. She is signed under the Swangz Avenue in late 2019. A long time ago, Azawi was encouraged to pursue music after repeatedly visiting the Ndere Cultural Center to attend festivals.
She has been successful in penning songs for several Ugandan singers, including Nina Rose, Lydia Jazmine, and Eddy Kenzo.

Who Is Azawi?
Pricilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi is a singer, composer, and dancer who became popular after the release of her debut solo Quinomino.
She was born in 1996 as the daughter of the late Walusimbi Samuel and Nakamatte Mary from Kampala, Uganda. She has three siblings, however, they include half-brothers and half-sisters.
She comes from a poor family and was raised in the Kampala slum of Nakulabye, where her mother had a restaurant. When Azawi’s father passed away, she was in senior four, and she claims that as a result, life got more complex and confusing.
Azawi’s Educational Background
She began her education at Buganda Road Primary School, where she attended until primary five. She then transferred to Mother Kevin Primary School in Mukono District, where she completed primary seven.
She completed her senior year at St. Henry’s college in Gangu Masajja. She barely studied the senior six during her A level because of financial difficulties in her family and she received the top score on her UACE tests. Later, she enrolled at Makerere University to work on a bachelor’s degree in business.
Azawi claims that she received numerous scholarships throughout her studies because she was talented in acting and singing and performed well in the classroom, which led most of the schools to award her scholarships.
How Azawi Began Her Musical Career?
As a dancer in the Kika dance group, she started her career in 2005. They gave numerous performances on stage together. She joined the Crane performers dance group four years later while still attending school.
When her friend founded the Karma band in her final year, she joined. She could sing covers, and she focused on doing Jamaican dancehall and reggae covers, which they used to play every weekend in clubs. She started writing music this time
The leader of the Karma Band had the opportunity to meet Eddy Kenzo, the manager of Big Talent, who gave them a chance to perform with him at a 2016 event.
She later wrote a song and sent it to Eddy Kenzo’s manager, which was loved by his management. Eddy Kenzo started promoting Azawi to various established artists after realizing how talented she was as a writer.
The first artist she wrote for was Lydia Jasmine, for whom she wrote almost an entire album. She later got in touch with Nina Rose and composed a song specifically for her.
Later, Azawi ended up writing her first solo Quinamino on a track Kusseim has made. After recording the song, Azawi contacted Julius Kyazze of Swangz Avenue. She was given the chance to be signed, which she seized. She formally signed Swangz Avenue in November 2019.
In January 2020, they released their first single, Quinamino, which shook the Ugandan airwaves 2020.

Within a short period, Azawi gained global attention, which could be considered the greatest achievement she ever received.
2021 was a year marked for Azawi’s growth in her musical career. This year she has achieved many awards such as Janzi award in the categories of Female Artist of the Year and Outstanding Album of the Year for African Music.
She was the Teeniez Awards 2021’s Best Artist of the Year, Teenz Hottest Songwriter, Teenz Female Artist of the Year, and Teenz Hottest Song of the Year.
In 2022, she was awarded Zzina awards for Female Artist of the Year and best songwriter of the year.
