Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor and President’s first son has stated that he does not believe in the National Resistance Movement (NRM), calling it a reactionary organisation.
However, Gen Kainerugaba, who was just promoted to the top military position in the UPDF, stated that he believes President Yoweri Museveni, the head of the NRM.
Gen Muhoozi Tweeted that he believes in Jesus Christ as well as his father, General Museveni. But he doesn’t believe the party NRM. he said NRM is the most reactionary organisation in Uganda according to the Marxist terms.
It is true that General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has criticised the NRM, the government of his father Yoweri Museveni, harshly and called it a political party that doesn’t represent the people of Uganda.
This weekend Muhoozi came with another tweet that said he is listening to the outcry of people for change in Uganda and he is with those people. He argued that the NRM doesn’t represent the people of Uganda.
He addressed the people telling them that they should join him to create the sixth republic after the first Obote I, the second Idi Amin, the third Milton Obote II, the fourth Okello and the Fifth NRM. They need to be the sixth Republic. Which solidifies his late conversion into a strong opponent of the NRM.
The NRM hierarchy is not responding to Muhoozi’s outbursts. The president is silent, the officials of the NRM party are speaking quietly out of fear of being overheard, and the army claims it is forbidden from discussing specific persons. Everyone is overwhelmed by Muhoozi.
The General was referring to how the NRM does business, even if he did not give a specific example.
Political parties play an essential role in a democratic society by seeking and articulating civic needs and issues as identified by members and supporters, interacting with and educating voters and citizens about the political and electoral process, and nurturing a general sense of political values.
Political parties are also expected to strike a balance between competing demands and turn them into general policies, mobilise citizens to participate in politics and turn their ideas into workable policy options, channel public opinion from citizens to the government, and hire and prepare candidates for public office, among other duties.
Muhoozi’s populist speech appears to be aimed at gaining electoral support from the angry young Turks who feel ignored by the government. He aspires to be the undisputed leader of the younger generation of NRM supporters, which is unquestionably a significant vote group.
On Monday, Muhoozi tweeted that some people keep saying he wants to be president. But it never came into his mind. He added that he is already the leader of his generation and That’s the highest honour he could get and his generation will always be the greatest.
He later wrote on Twitter that in a few weeks he will announce something, as a leader of his generation, not through his Twitter account but through any other means.
Even while the supporters of the ruling party continue to advise hesitant supporters to generally ignore the tweets that keep arriving offer a wide insight into Muhoozi’s mindset and that of the NRM.

Generally speaking, Muhoozi is the first member of the immediate first family to start employing action against the party his father leads. He appears to be venting toward the establishment, which he perceives as the main obstacle to his desire to become president. Last October, Muhoozi signalled that his father had fired him after some senior officers had persuaded him to do so. He is looking to make amends.
While Muhoozi and his army of supporters continue to build an early campaign for his presidential candidacy, the NRM old guard feels helpless and dissatisfied since President Museveni keeps silent.
Uganda’s next general election is set for 2026, and there are rumours that Muhoozi and Bobi Wine will run against each other.
