Regardless of living arrangements, the combined income of the husband and wife must be considered when determining qualifying income for married or other couples, unless they are lawfully separated.
(4) The applicant must not have received financial aid or a subsidy from federal, state, county, or municipal money; this exclusion includes payments for Social Security, energy assistance, SSI benefits, veteran’s benefits, subsidized housing, and cash support from the DSS. What Documents From Social Security Are Acceptable As Proof Of Disability?
- The benefit year must be covered by the proof of disability.
(1) A Medicare premium statement on an SSA-1099 form serves as the greatest evidence of impairment. People who are disabled cannot get Medicare benefits until they have been so for two years; however, if the applicant is under 62, an SSA-1099 form without Medicare is admissible as long as the claim SS# (box 8) matches the SS# (box 2).
(2) A TPQY form that can be obtained from Social Security and shows that the person is disabled is appropriate if it is for the benefit year. The phrase “eligible as of [date]” will do.
(3) A Social Security form (such as the TPQY or another form) proving that the applicant received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits throughout the benefit year.
(4) A letter of the award that is current (within three years).
(5) A recent Social Security Benefit Verification Letter.
