Jared Fogle Case

Jared Fogle became a household name after the popular fast-food chain Subway selected him as a spokesperson for the food chain in 2000. The selection was based on the report that Fogle lost almost 240 pounds through a diet that included sandwiches from subway.

His association with Subway made him a very popular and recognizable face across the nation. The popularity of Fogle only increased from there on.

In 2004, Jared FGogle started his Jared Foundation, which was a nonprofit organization that functioned with the aim to raise awareness against child obesity through educational programs and other tools.

It was in 2007 that Jared Fogle caught the attention of law enforcement officers. Journalist and radio host Rochelle Herman-Walrond once interviewed Jared Fogle for her show on local radio.

Rochelle remembers him being flirtatious during the interview and that he also made some inappropriate comments regarding middle-school-aged girls. This made her suspicious of Folge and she reported the case to the FBI. In order to gather proof to support her arguments, Rochelle befriended Fogle and recorded their conversation.

Reportedly, during the time she was friends with Fogle, he discussed and confessed his earlier encounters with underage girls but the proof was deemed admissible by the FBI.

Eventually, Jared Fogle was arrested on the grounds of charges like distribution and receipt of child pornography and engaging in sexual acts with underage children.

It was the arrest of a person named Russell Taylor that eventually led to the arrest of Jared Fogle and revealed the real face of the former Subway spokesperson.

Who Is Russell Taylor?

Russell Taylor was the director of Jared Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Jared Fogle in 2004. The main objective of the organization was to provide awareness against issues like childhood obesity.

The foundation organized the programs through different institutions like schools and other communities in order to create awareness among people about the issue.

While Russell Taylor was serving as the director of the Jared Foundation, the Indiana State Police received information regarding him.

As per the tip, Russell Taylor was reported to send pictures that depict bestiality. The police searched the house of Russell Taylor following the information and they made a very shocking discovery following the search.

The police raided the house of Russell Taylor and they found out that Taylor had installed hidden cameras in his stepdaughter’s room and also around the house. They found footage that showed the girls in different precarious situations like getting changed or some other kind of activity.

The friends of the girl were also seen in videos. The police also found almost 500 explicit images from during the raid.

Russell Taylor was arrested by the Indiana State Police on April 29, 2015. The arrest was based on charges like possession of child pornography, child exploitation, and voyeurism.

As the arrest of Russell Taylor became news, Jared Fogle severed all ties with him and removed Taylor from all activities associated with Jared Foundation.

After his arrest, Russell Taylor attempted to commit suicide on May 6, 2015, while he was placed in the Marion county jail. Later on September 1, 2015, Taylor pleaded guilty to all charges raised against him and he was eventually sentenced to 27 years in federal prison on December 10, 2015.

How Is Russell Taylor Connected To The Jared Fogle Case?

During the investigation into the charges against Russell Taylor, the police received evidence which connected Taylor with Jared Fogle other than the Jared Foundation.

The police came across the text exchanges between Taylor and Fogle and reported that Taylor had sent pictures of naked minors to Jared Fogle.

Fogle, who was earlier involved in such acts, replied with an interest in having sex with the minor depicted in the picture.

This exchange combined with the statement from journalist and radio host Rochelle Herman-Walrond prompted the authorities to look further into the connection between the two.

The police also found out that Russell Taylor also provided Jared Fogle with a laptop and a thumb drive that contained pornography featuring minors.

The revelations made by their investigation into Taylor prompted the police to conduct a raid at Fogle’s house in Zionsville, Indiana. In the search conducted by the police, they found evidence that proved the involvement of Jared Fogle in sexual activities with minors.

They found explicit photos and videos of minors from Fogle’s personal electronic devices. His computers and all other electronic devices were seized by the police and Fogle was arrested and taken for further investigation.

The Arrest And Aftermath

Following the arrest of Jared Fogle on charges like child pornography and child exploitation, he was removed from all ties with the fast food chain Subway.

On the same day of Fogle’s arrest, a spokesperson for Subway made an announcement that said Fogle and Subway mutually decided to end all the ties between them and that Fogle was no longer, in any way, associated with the fast food chain.

They suspended all their business ties and Subway removed the reference to Jared Fogle from all of their websites. Russell Taylor pleaded guilty to 30 federal charges against him and he was ruled to serve 27 years behind bars by the jury.

Eventually, the former spokesperson of Subway, Jared Fogle also pleaded guilty to the charges against him and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the court.
