The former Twitter executives who met with the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday had to face a serious warning from one of the representatives. The former executives were warned of a potential arrest that was coming their way from representative Clay Higgins.
Higgins was furious about the involvement of the executives in hiding a report by the New York Post which involved Hunter Biden’s laptop. He even told the former executives that jail and arrest were coming for them.
The controversy regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop had been a hot topic of discussion and the prime reason for the hearing was to address the accusations that were raised against Twitter while the executives were in charge of the social media platform.
According to the reports, Twitter played a significant part in suppressing and not releasing a report which was done by the New York Post about Hunter Biden’s laptop prior to the 2020 presidential election in which Joe Biden, father of Hunter Biden, was elected as the 46th president of the United States.
According to the arguments of representative Clay Higgins, the former Twitter executives were actively involved in suppressing evidence that could have easily affected the presidential campaign of Joe Biden.
Former executives of Twitter like Yoel Roth who was the former Head of Trust and Safety, Vijaya Gadde who was the former chief legal officer, James Baker who was the former Twitter deputy counsel and Anika Collier Navaroli who was a former employee at Twitter were present at the hearing which addressed Twitter’s policy which blocked the sharing of the New York Post’s report on Hunter Biden laptop before the 2020 elections.
Addressing the issue early in 2021 May, the former CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey remarked blocking the report on Hunter Biden’s laptop was a “total mistake.”
In his accusations, representative Clay Higgins also pointed his words toward the FBI, whom he claimed to have played a role in suppressing the report.
According to Higgins, the FBI had the laptop forever a year and they were aware it was leaking and that leaked information had the potential to affect the presidential campaign for Joe Biden.
Higgins pointed out the relationship between the FBI and Twitter and he blamed the agency for using their relationship with the platform in suppressing criminal evidence.
Clay Higgins also warned the former executives about their involvement in the presidential election of the United States which he claims that they have committed willingly and knowingly.
He warned the executives that interfering in the presidential election was not a minor act and that they should be prepared for the bad news that might follow the investigation.
In light of the statements and accusations proposed by representative Clay Higgins, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released a statement as their response to the accusation.
In the statement related by the FBI, the agency made it clear that they do not instruct any social media platform to remove or censor any information from their platform. Instead, the FBI receives information from such platforms if they believe that there is a serious threat that could result in something fatal.
They also added that the agency only contacts such social media platforms in events or cases involving foreign involvement like Russia, China, or Iran, where malign foreign information will be shared with such companies.
The agency also alerts such platforms when there are intentional attempts to spread wrong information about activities like voting time, place, or dates which is seen as a federal crime.
In response to the argument which claimed that Twitter made an association with the FBI, the former Twitter executives made it clear that they were not contacted by the FBI or any such government agency for that matter to black the sharing of the report on Hunter Biden’s laptop.
The case concerning Hunter Biden’s laptop took a very dramatic and unexpected turn through the ‘Twitter Files’ which is an initiative of the current CEO of the platform Elon Musk where he releases internal communication files regarding some of the major decisions taken at the platform.
According to ‘Twitter Files,’ there had been involvement from the side of the government, and Twitter acted as per the instructions given to them, by the government or a government agency in suppressing the laptop story.

While the former Twitter executives who were present at the hearing admitted their mistake in suppressing the report of Hunter Biden’s laptop, they also stuck to their statement that there was no involvement of the government or any government agency in their decision.
Yoel Roth, who was the former Head of Trust and Safety at Twitter stated that there was confusion regarding how to handle the situation as the company was very strict about its policy to spread any misinformation and also at a sensitive time like the presidential election.
He also added that Twitter committed the mistake in their attempt to avoid repeating any past mistakes like the one that happened in 2016.
Hunter Biden Laptop – A Quick Glance
The controversy regarding the laptop of Hunter Biden, the second son of the president of the United States, Joe Biden started around October 2020 when a laptop that belonged to Hunter Biden was abandoned at a computer shop in Delaware.
Just weeks before the 2020 United States presidential election, the New York Post published a report which featured emails from the obtained laptop which allegedly pointed out some corruption that was committed by the then-presidential candidate Joe Biden.
It should also be noted that the report was based on the information provided by Rudy Giuliani, who was a close associate of the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The incident then gave rise to news and allegations which accused Joe Biden of misusing his power and position as the vice president of the United States in matters regarding the association of his son Hunter Biden by the Ukrainian gas company Burisma.
While the Republicans share the belief that the news and allegations are true, the members of the Democratic party claim that the allegations were a move to damage the reputation of Joe Biden during the time of the presidential campaign.
