Actors and actresses are constantly being hired and fired in the world of television, which means that some of your favourite roles will eventually be played by someone completely different.
Some of the most notable instances include Michael J. Fox leaving Spin City and being replaced by Charlie Sheen, or, alternatively, Charlie Sheen being replaced by Ashton Kutcher on Two and a Half Men. Both of these instances are examples of actors leaving their roles on television shows and being replaced by other actors. A more tragic illustration is provided by the fact that Jon Lovitz took over for Phil Hartman on NewsRadio when the latter passed away unexpectedly.
We can now add one more thing to the list, but this one appears to be more transient than the others. After giving birth to her first child a month ago, Zooey Deschanel, who plays the title role in the comedy series New Girl on Fox, will be taking maternity leave during the fifth season of the show and will be replaced by Megan Fox in the role of New Girl.
However, this role of Megan Fox on New Girl is only temporary, so those who are disappointed should not worry.
Megan Fox will take over for Zooey Deschanel in a multi-episode arc that will take place during the upcoming fifth season of the show, according to an article published in EW. The question now is how they are going to justify Jess’s disappearance from the flat she shared with them. Due to the fact that the eccentric school teacher will be required to serve on a jury, she will not be participating on the show during that particular time period.
Because of this change of events, Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Winston (Lamorne Harris) are compelled to have Jess’ room rented out, and a new girl (hey-o!) named Reagan (Fox) moves in there temporarily. A “beautiful, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales agent who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft” is how Reagan is described. Someone as stunning as Fox walking into the apartment is bound to take the guys by surprise, which is a situation that should lend itself well to the creation of some good laughs.
Even if you’re not a fan of Megan Fox, her performance in “This Is 40” shown that she’s got some solid comedy and improv chops; hence, adding her to a comedy series like “New Girl” might provide some amusing outcomes.
The show has been going through some rough patches as of late, with viewers losing interest as it meanders from one topic to the next, appearing unsure of where to take its characters next, so it’s possible that this will give it a new lease on life in some way. If Fox turns up being a popular character on the programme, perhaps she will return for additional episodes as a guest star.
The encouraging news for fans is that they will still see a substantial amount of Deschanel during the following season. Due to the fact that shooting did not stop after the fourth season was completed, the actress was able to shoot some material for the fifth season earlier this year.
In addition, the fact that New Girl won’t return to Fox until January 2016, rather than making its debut in the fall as is customary, may help to make up for the absence of Zooey Deschanel while she is on maternity leave. When it comes to Fox, her appearance in the upcoming season won’t take place until the sixth episode.
Fans of New Girl might be disappointed to hear this news, but given that the show has evolved into a great ensemble comedy, it should be able to continue on for at least a short while even without Deschanel. Or it will quickly devolve into an uncontrollable cancellation spiral. Now all we can do is wait and watch what happens.
