Hamis Kiggundu, a businessman from Uganda, could not have expected when he launched his first company years ago that he would become one of the most successful businessmen in Africa.
Hamis Kiggundu, popularly known as Ham in Uganda is just a 38-year-old businessman who owns various buildings in Uganda including the Ham Shopping Mall, Ham Towers, and Ham Shopping Grounds.

Hamis Kiggundu, mostly known as Ham was born on February 10, 1984, in Uganda’s Masaka District of Central Region. Ham was born into a family with a significant real estate background in Kampala. Mr. Haruna Segawa and Mrs. Nakayiza Jalia are his parents.
He is rumored to be in a relationship with Martha Ainomugisha and is the parent of twins.
Kiggundu was born into a Muslim family and he is a great devotee of Islam. According to Ham, Islam is the ultimate achievement of a lifetime and he would not choose to practice any other religion.

He completed his primary education at Masaka, began his high school study at Kabojja International School in Kampala district, and eventually earned a Bachelor of Law from Makerere University. He began working at the Law Development Center, from which he earned a diploma in legal practice.

Hamis Kiggundu’s father was a textile trader and Ham learned about business from his father. Ham’s parents had given him capital while he was in high school to start any ventures. Ham says that his parents only meant to make money for his personal needs and also to foster his ability in business.
Ham was interested in business from a very young age. He began the business after completing his studies.
His father offered him start-up money for his business enterprise after school. Ham started as a little local business that dealt in goods from first-hand importers abroad and sold them for a profit.
As capital inflow increased over time, Ham eventually became one of the primary importers of commodities from China, Thailand, Dubai, and Hong Kong. He started selling goods in Uganda, Sudan, the DRC, Tanzania, and Kenya.
Following that, he made advances in the real estate, transportation, technology, and industrial sectors, which was necessary for his rise to financial power.
The Nakivubo Stadium was renovated, Upgraded, and renamed Nakivubo Memorial Stadium, and had its seating capacity increased from 30,000 to 35,00 under the direction of Hamis Kiggundu. The president of Uganda, Museveni gave the project to Ham in 2015. Ham personally provided the multi-million dollar facility according to the president’s request.
Hamis Kiggundu founded the Ham Group of Companies and currently serves as the CEO of the group.
Hamis Kiggundu Besides Business
Apart from being a successful businessman in Africa, Hamis Kiggundu is a lawyer by profession. He is also known as a philanthropist and the author of two books.
Ham is a graduate of law, but he was more into business and so he concentrated more on business alongside the profession as a lawyer.
During the pandemic, Ham donated food to the COVID-19 task force in Uganda and provided food to over 100 Ugandan journalists through the Ugandan Journalists Association (UJA).
To aid in the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines for Ugandans, Ham gave the government a total of Shs530 million in July 2021. He also urged other capable Ugandans and corporates to join him in saving lives as a way to give back to the Ugandan community.
Ham has written two motivational books named Success and Failure Based on Reality and Reason, and Reason as the World Masterpiece.

Ham is working on several projects in Africa, including Ham Integrated Agro-processing Industries, Ham Shopping Ground in Kampala, Ham Towers, and Ham Shopping Mall.
A multibillion-dollar project called the White House is being built in Entebbe by Ham. It will serve as a regional tourism destination and is fully equipped with a helipad. The White House is a mirror of the White House in the US.
Ham has a business building in the UK which is used to conduct business as Ham International UK Ltd. one of his additional properties is a logistic business, Ham International Express Logistics LLC with its offices in Euless and Texas.
He owns Hamz Link Ltd, a multimedia platform business in Edmonton, Canada. Through this, you can access Ham’s online platforms, Hamz Campus, Hamz Wave, and Hamz Line.

Hamis Kiggundu is one of the wealthiest people in Uganda as of 2023 and is supposed to have an estimated net worth of $1 billion. Ham is considered one of the seven richest people in Uganda.
Hamis Kiggundu – Awards And Recognitions
Ham received an award in 2018 in recognition of his book, Success and Failure Based on Reason and Reality. At an event held in Kampala by the Work Forum of Uganda, Ham’s book was nominated as the best book of the year.
Hamis Kiggundu – Controversies
Diamond Trust Bank was sued by Hamis Kiggundu in 2020 due to allegations of fraud. According to Ham, the bank committed fraud totaling over $30 million and $23.4 million over ten years. Ham won the case and the High court of Kampala ordered the bank to return all money Ham lost in his account.
Another controversy that Ham came across was the tug-of-war between him and the Buganda Kingdom over Kigo Land. The Buganda Kingdom’s 140 acres of land in Kigo is supposedly the subject of accusation against Ham. They allegedly accused him of taking over this 140-acre land.
