Ssekitooleko Ronald, better known as DJ Lito, a popular DJ from Uganda has won the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) for best African DJ.
The Award was announced in the ceremony held at Dakar, Senegal on January 15, 2023.
The competition for the award was very stiff because the Deejays from different continents were nominated in this category. DJ Lito’s performance in the song Tick Talk by Bebe Cool, Slick Stuart, and Roja made him win the Award. Lito has stood out for the Ugandan audience being the first ever East African Deejay to the AFRIMA Award.
DJ Lito expressed his gratitude to the Ugandan media and stated that the award was dedicated to the Ugandan deejays fraternity and all his followers worldwide. He advised aspiring DJs and current DJs, encouraging them to always work hard, and stay committed to the profession that they choose for themselves.
DJ Lito claimed that in 2020 when he broke all the COVID-19 lockdown rules to perform at nearly all of the country’s nightclubs, he was able to win over a large following, and thus he rose to fame.
He believes that effort, commitment, focus, and prayer are the key to success. He claimed that these are the key to his success. He promised to never give up on making his fans proud.
In the category of Best African DJ, Lito received more votes than the other nominees. DJ P2N from the DRC, DJ Snake from Algeria, DJ Sky King from Ghana, and DJ Yesseni from Namibia are just a few of the nominees in this category.
The well-known auditing firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) was in charge of looking into the voting process of AFRIMA to determine winners.
Eddy Kenzo, Spice Diana, King Saha, and Babe Cool were also nominated in different categories of the AFRIMA Awards 2022 but they didn’t win. Davido won the Best male Artist in Inspiration African Music, Burna Boy won Artist of the Year, and Wizkid won the Best African Act. Burna Boy’s most recent album, Love Damini, won Album of the Year.
The award ceremony included performances by P-Square, a global music superstar from Nigeria, as well as other Nigerian singers Tiwa Savage, Eltee Skhillz, Pheelz, Fave, and Asake.
These were joined by a group of additional African artists to perform at the main awards ceremony at Dakar Arena, which has a capacity of 15000 people. It was broadcast live on 104 TV stations in more than 84 countries around the world.
Popular Ugandan Musician Eddy Kenzo and media personalities such as Sheila Gashumba and Douglas Lwang wrote congratulatory notes on Twitter for Lito. On January 17th Lito shared a picture of him with the award and tweeted that the award is his special dedication to the Ugandan entertainment industry.

Who Is DJ Lito?
Ssekitooleko Ronald Lyto, also known as DJ Lito, was born on September 19, 1996, in a Muslim family. He is a disc jockey, record producer, and media personality from Uganda. He rose to fame in 2015. The information regarding his personal life is mostly unknown.

How Did DJ Lito Begin His Career As A Deejay?
In 2015, his performance as DJ in Gayaza made him rise to fame. In 2016, he joined Casablanca Kololo, where for three years he often showcased Ugandan artists.
He became well-known in the latter half of 2020 after appearing at Next Media’s NextRadio and NBS TV Virtual Lockdown performances.
By playing local music for his listeners, he created a vibe that encouraged and uplifted Ugandan music and talent, earning him the name TurnTableSupreme, which has since become his brand power and identity.
Later, he developed into a versatile DJ and Crowd reader, choosing music from a variety of genres, including Afropop, EDM, Hip Hop, RNB, Reggae, and Dancehall. This ability to choose music according to the mood of the audience allowed him to perform at any event or party.
He was hired by several bars and clubs across the nation to perform. He also received an international booking to perform in Kigali, Rwanda at Calabash Rooftop Bar for the Chop Life Experience, which was hosted by Sheila Gashumba.

Dj Lito began working on his first single, Tick Talk with Bebe Cool in late 2021. The song featured Sheila Gashumba, Slick Stuart, and DJ Roja. The song became a huge hit not only in Uganda but also internationally.
