In an interview with Empire Magazine, Neil Gaiman discussed the various tones and styles employed throughout the series, stating: “The first episode makes you realize, “Oh, I get it: it’s like Downton Abbey, but with magic.”
“In Episode 2, when you see Gregory the Gargoyle in The Dreaming, you will be left wondering, “What the heck is this?” Episode 5 is as dark and terrible as things will ever go, followed by Episode 6, which is likely the most upbeat of all the episodes.”
