Toni Collette was born in Australia. She was raised in Glebe and in Blacktown. She is 50 years old.
In 2003 she got married to Dave Galafassi, drummer in the Australian pop-rock band, Gelbison. She had met her husband at an album launch for his band in 2002.
One year later, Colette married her husband in a traditional Buddhist ceremony. She is not a Buddhist but she considers it as a structured and compassionate religion. She has said that meditation is something that she enjoys.
She has two children, Sage Florence, and Arlo Florence. She had initially dated Jonathan Rhys Meyers, with whom she worked as a co-star in Velvet Goldmine.
She is settled in Sydney with her family. Colette is an active participant in camping.

At the age of 14, while in high school, she performed in a portrayal of Godspell, a musical. Colette later joined the Australian Theatre for Young People and continued to The National Institute of Dramatic Art.
Colette’s first ever acting role was in 1990, in season 10 of a drama series named A Country Place. While at the National Institute she appeared in Uncle Vanya and in Rush.
She debuted in professional theater through Operation Holy Mountain, portraying the role of Debbie. Colette was a fellow member of the Sydney Theater Company and the Belvoir Street Theater and has performed in A Little Night Music and in King Lear in the role of Crodelia, respectively.
Her first film was Spotswood in 1992. Colette supported herself through the initial stages of her career by being a part-time pizza delivery person and by being a jeans seller.
She was cast in Muriel’s Wedding for the preparation of which she had gained 18 kgs of weight in a period of 7 weeks.
The 1999 thriller movie The Sixth Sense in which she portrayed the role of Lynn Sear gained widespread attention.
