After just 1 round of blind auditions, The Voice 2023 contestants have notched attention nationwide, particularly, D. Smooth. The rivalry has begun and the situation is already heating up.
The premiere on March 6 disclosed the 2023 jury members including the former One Direction star, Niall Horan, Chance the Rapper, and veterans Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson.
However, the singers are so graceful as they have set the stage on fire with their mesmerizing performances. Plus, they are not letting any distractions in but deliver that automatically hooks our attention on them. One such singer who is living in our hearts since the audition round is D. Smooth.
So, Who Is D.Smooth?
David Mitchell, who is professionally called D. Smooth is an American singer and songwriter, who came to fame by appearing in The Voice 2023 audition on March 6.
The NBC’s singing competition show witnesses a string of good talents, but among which D. Smooth manages to garner enough attention with his unique rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.”
Living in Birmingham, Alabama, Smooth graduated from Minor High School, Alabama in 2016.
D. Smooth’s Performance On The Voice 2023
With Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect,” Smooth took his talent to next level as the singer combined an R&B spin on the feel-good song, making it sound afresh.
The reality show was previously known for promoting variety and unique content and this time too they did not let D.Smooth slip away from them.
Both Clarkson and Horan spun their chairs after the 25-year-old Alabama native completed his part and Horan went to explain why he turned as he had intentions to take Smooth onto his team.
With admiration in his eyes, Horan said that he was waiting for him to finish the song, which was in first hand a “hard to sing-song,” but he “kept taking it to new heights.” Horan further mentioned that Smooth has succeeded in persuading two of the coaches to turn.
Niall Horan And Kelly Clarkson Fought For The Singing Icon
Horan, who was looking for the uniqueness in each singer, spotted Smooth’s capacity and tried to persuade him to join his team. Clarkson also appreciated the way he mutated Ed Sheeran’s Perfect into some R&B and went on to request him to join her team as well.
Although baffled, Smooth ultimately chose Clarkson over Horan. Meanwhile, Chance did not give a positive hint from his side as he noticed multiple sour notes in the middle of Smooth’s performance.
Apparently, Chance is not willing to train a singer, but he is looking for pro crooners who have more chances to win the trophy.
Initially, Clarkson gave him a greenlight a few seconds after Smooth began to perform.
But Horan waited until the last second to turn his chair and when asked, Horan replied that it was his strategy to invite Smooth’s attention, so that he may choose to join his team. However, it seems like Horan failed in his attempt.

D. Smooth Joined Team Kelly Clarkson
After a minute-long discussion, Smooth decided to rock the team, Kelly Clarkson, who has made good experiences in the show since 2014.
Since she was capable of pointing out emerging talents from miles away, NBC’s longest-running singing reality show received 4 winners from team Kelly over the last few years.
Most probably, Smooth must have thought about his winning chances when he made his final decision to move on with Clarkson.
The 2014 winner Brynn Carteli, 2015 winner Chevel Shepherd, 2017 winner Jake Hoot, and the 2021 winner Girl Named Tom were the fortunate former contestants of The Voice who were randomly picked by Clarkson to win the title.
So far, team Kelly has its eye on the 22-year-old Holly Brand, who auditioned with the song “Mississippi Girl,” and D. Smooth. There are obviously more to join the battle, and we are yet to see who will be Smooth’s teammates in The Voice 2023.
Would He Win?
Although there are numerous contestants yet to join the ride, Smooth appears like someone who has the potential to effortlessly swift through each of the five rounds of the reality show including Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs, and Live Performance.
By now, he is past the Blind Audition and is permitted to enter the second round which is literally going to be a battle, just like its name.
