There have been some serious discussions and campaigning this month from the part of the NFL players regarding their playing surface. A major section of players argues for a natural grass playing surface over a synthetic-turf surface owing to the high risk of injuries in synthetic turf surfaces.
While most players who stand for the natural grass ground are not excited, the Pittsburg Steelers’ Najee Harris is looking forward to the match against the Indianapolis Colts, as the game is scheduled to take place on turf.
Harris, who had been playing with the Steelers since 2021 says that, unlike most of the players he liked to play on the turf rather than natural grass ground.
Najee Harris makes it clear that it is his personal preference that he liked to play on turf better. According to him, the reason behind his preference is that it reminded him of the time he used to play in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with the Crimson Tide.
As a young football player, Harris used to play at the stadium a lot and from his words, the stadium witnessed some of their most exciting matches, which could be called the home game for him and his team.
He recalls that he and his team loved to play there and he also added that playing in any other indoor stadium brought him back the memories of playing football during his college time, which was a time when he just like playing indoors.
Even though Najee Harris prefers the indoor turf surface better than the grass one, he is also aware that some of the players on his team do not prefer the turf just as much as he does. He says that some of his teammates tend to get mad if they were practicing inside.
While half of the teams in the NFL play their home matches on turf, the other half play their home matches on grass. The upcoming match for the Pittsburg Steelers, which is scheduled to take place on Monday, will be played on turf. It will be the 11th match for the Steelers this season.
The team is making their way to the field after the training and confidence that they have gained over their bye week. The game will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium, which is the home of the Indianapolis Colts.
Joining the Steelers in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft, Najee Harris had been at the best of his game in 2022. Harris was able to set the record of 1,200 rushing yards last season and he also had 361 yards and one touchdown on 108 carries in the first eight games that he played for the Steelers in 2022. In the two games that the team played after their bye, Harris rushed 189 yards and had two touchdowns on 40 carries.
The player also said that the team had used their time with the bye week considerably and that he and the whole team were really focused on bringing their best forms to the field and that has really shown in their previous matches.
Through his words, Najee Harris is sure that his team is improving – that everyone is putting hard work into training and that they are definitely going in the right direction.
The match between the Steelers and the Colts will take place at 7:15 pm CST, on Monday. The Steelers haven’t had a losing season since 2003 but the Colts are also determined to take the game from the Steelers with the new changes that they have made in their team.
The Colts fired their previous coach Frank Reich and they brought on Jeff Saturday to take his place. Jeff Saturday was the former Colts center and ESPN analyst. It should also be mentioned that the team failed in meeting the aim of these changes as they were only able to secure a single win from their past five games.
