Robert De Niro is an actor in Hollywood who was simply looking for roles before he got Bang the drum and Mean streets in the year 1973, and thus, he never looked back after that.
Robert played the role of Vito Corleone in the Godfather II for which De Niro won his first Oscar. In the year 1978, Robert played the iconic role of Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, and also did a movie called The Deer Hunter.
In the year 1980, De Niro played a boxer Jake LaMotta in Ragging Bull for which he won an Academy Award. In the 80s, Robert gave timeless classics in that period as The Untouchables, Angel Heart, Brazil and King of Comedy.
According to Toronto Sun, Robert talked about his success keys that, “In my case, it wasn’t about the confidence,” De Niro tells Postmedia Network. “I had the confidence. There was a little bit of luck, too. Being at the right place at the right time to get an opportunity that will show what you can do — that’ll help.”
Later, in the 90s, Robert continued with the same flow, where he was trying to explore his skills and polish them with some timeless performances as Awakenings, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, and Cop Land.
“I never had a moment where I was wondering, ‘What am I going to do from here?’ ” he says. “I could see it going in that direction, but it didn’t and I was lucky … I had periods when I wasn’t doing much, but then there were other stretches where I was. All I can say is, I worked hard and I was lucky.”
2000s have been a comprehensive experience for De Niro, as he had done movies of different genres, such as action movies such as Killer Elite, tried comedies Fockers series and of course the mainstream serious fare The Good Shepherd.
“I like the tag line from the ad (for The Intern), ‘Experience Never Grows Old,’ ” he says, smiling. “That says it right there.” “It’s a good line,” Meyers adds. “I’m not sure who came up with it. I read hundreds of lines and when I got to that one I said, ‘This is good.’ It’s hard to talk about a movie in four words.”
Now, Robert De Niro is doing The Intern. The Intern is a comedy movie by Nancy Meyers, in which Dakota Johnson is also in the movie along with De Niro. Robert says about The Intern, “Being an intern is what makes it more interesting and fun,” he says.
Robert De Niro’s Valuable Advice
Since Robert De Niro never had a mentor in life, he has got some advice for the people, especially youngsters of today. Robert says,
“I like to give advice to younger people — if they ask me. In the past, I asked people who were ahead in their career, like (director Elia) Kazan or certain actors who were a generation ahead. I’d ask them questions of what to look out for … I didn’t want to experience something if it was going to be negative.”
“So I’ll do that, if people ask me. I won’t volunteer it, but I have some young friends who sometimes ask me stuff and I’ll give them my opinion of their situation.”
“We do tend to think that when you get to a certain age, you’re less relevant in some ways. And that’s just not the case. Young people aren’t sensitive to that, but when you get there, you certainly know that.”
Which is exactly why he said yes to The Intern. “I had no choice,” he grins. “What am I going to do, retire or do the movie?”
