Uganda is a country with scenic locations and is a paradise for nature lovers. Blesses with greenish forests, vibrant ecosystems, live rivers, and lush sceneries, Uganda was described as the ‘Pearl of Africa’ by Winston Churchill for its beautiful sceneries. 1. Murchison Falls

One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Victoria Nile, Murchison falls, also known as Kabalega Falls, is located at the top of lake Albert. The waterfall is situated in the northwestern part of Uganda. The beautiful site of the powerful Nile busting through a narrow gorge into the lake is a mesmerizing sight for the eyes.

The magnificent waterfall is not the only attraction of the area but if you look around the protected forest area that makes up the Murchison falls, chances are high that you come across some icons of African forests like African lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, or buffalos. 

2. Lake Victoria

Often describes as the heart of Uganda, Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake by area and also the world’s largest tropical lake. The lake is also the birthplace of the Nile, the longest river in the world.

Other than these significant cultural and geographical significances, lake Victoria is also home to one of the most vibrant and pristine ecosystems in all of Africa. More than water adventures, the lake has much more to offer to travelers.

3. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

One of the UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites, the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a part of the Bwindi Impenetrable forest which is located in the Southwestern part of Uganda.

The forest comprises both montane and lowland forest and it is accessible only by foot. Rough statistics say that the forest is home to around 120 mammals, 348 bird species, 220 butterfly species, 27 frog species, and many more animals which are endangered.

4. Kazinga Channel

The Kazinga Channel is a 32-kilometer-long, natural channel that connects the two lakes – Lake Edward and Lake George. Just like most places in Uganda, the area of Kazinga channel also is home to a large number of wild animals.

The area is famous for the high number of hippopotami and Nile crocodiles, which is one of the highest in the world. The Kazinhga channel is one of the best locations if you are looking for some adventure in Uganda.

The beautiful scenic views and the chances of getting to see the wildlife of Africa up close has made Kazinga channel a favorite and popular wildlife tourist spot in all of Uganda. 

5. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

One of the National parks in Uganda that is situated in the southwestern area of the country, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park contains three inactive volcanos, which is one f the most distinctive factor of the park.

It is home to a number of different animal species like the golden monkey, mountain gorilla, giant forest hog, black and white colobus, and many more. The park is also home to aide variety of bird species of which some are endemic to the park.

The park offers the tourists some exciting activities like mountain gorilla tracking, golden monkey tracking, volcano hiking bird watching, and many more. If you are on a journey to get to know the rich and local wildlife and nature, then Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is a stop that you should not miss. 

6. Sipi Falls

Around 55 kilometers from Mbale, a city in the Eastern region of Uganda, Sipi waterfalls is located at mountain Elgon’s northeastern foot slopes. The Sipi falls consist of three waterfalls formed by the river Sipi as it flows down the slopes of Elgon into the Kyoga basin.

The area where the waterfall is located is famous for its coffee plantations and there are guides available, who have good knowledge of different processes regarding the production of coffee, who can explain it to you.

The falls also include different other activities like climbing Mount Elgon, hiking, cave expedition, and so on. Sipi falls is a very wise choice to get away from that busy city life and to take a break to enjoy amidst nature. Sipi Falls is regarded as one of the most beautiful places in Uganda.

7. Entebbe Botanical Garden 

Located close to lake Victoria, the Entebbe Botanical Garden was first laid out in 1898. The garden is actually divided into three different zones.

It was in the rainforest zone of the garden that some of the scenes from the ever-popular film Tarzan, which featured Johnny Weissmuller was shot.

The garden also offers different choices to thor visitors. Some of the most popular activities that you can take up at the garden include bird watching, nature walks, biking, monkey feeding, and so on. Every November, the Milege Afrojazz band organizes a music festival at the garden called the Milege World Music Festival.

This garden is regarded as one of the most beautiful places in Uganda to visit.

8. Lubiri Palace

If you wish to take a slightly different route and would like to travel down the lane of the history and culture of Uganda, Lubiri palace is one of the best picks for that. The place is situated on a hill, overlooking Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

The colonial-style palace once belonged to the King of Buganda and was involved in the Battle of Mengo which took place in 1966.

Today, the visitors can take a tour of the palace, where they will be able to set the torture chambers from the old times and also have a bit more insight into the history of Uganda. This place is a must-see destination and is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Uganda.

9. Ssese Islands

The Ssese Islands is also another doorway into one of the many different cultures and communities that live in Uganda. Located on the northwest shore of lake Victoria, the Ssese Islands is a group of 84 islands and they are also the home to the Bantu people of Uganda.

Each island is very distinctive in its size, and shape and also holds a wide variety of flora and fauna.

10. Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Managed by a non-profit organization named Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust, the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is an island sanctuary located in Uganda. The island is mainly home to orphaned chimpanzees which are reduced by wildlife authorities.

As most chimpanzees are not likely to survive if they are re-introduced into the wild. Being an island, it provides a safe home for the animals and also provides them with various natural foods. The sanctuary is open all year round for tourists and they also provide day and overnight stays for visitors.
