The two-time national coach of the year, Michael Charles Leach is currently the head coach at Mississippi State University. According to the latest reports, the coach was hospitalized earlier but the exact reason behind his hospitalization is not known as of now.
Available sources report that Leach was having some ‘personal health issues’ and he was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center following the illness.
He suffered the illness when he was at his home and was taken to the medical center in an ambulance. The University made no comments about the situation and stated only that their prayers were with Mike, his wife Sharon, and their family.

Mike Leach is a football coach who has worked as the coach for some of the top Universities in the country. He worked At Texas Tech University and Washington State University before landing his job at Mississippi State University.
Born on March 9, 1961, Leach was the son of Frank and Sandra Leach and he was born in Susanville, California. Even though he was born in California, Leach claims that Cody, Wyoming is his hometown.
He completed his high school education at Cody High School. He then joined Brigham Young University in Utah.
Rather than taking up football, Leach was a member of the rugby team but he stayed in close association with the football team and studied their moves. He graduated from the University with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies.
Mike also holds a Master’s degree in Sports science in sports coaching from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama in 1988.
Career As Coach
The official career of Michel Leach as a football coach started in the year 1987, when he joined the Cal poly, which is a football team that represents the California Polytechnic State University, and then the College of the Desert in 1988.
Throughout his career, Mike has worked at many different institutions and has also taken up different positions as an offensive coordinator. He joined the Oklahoma staff in the year 1999 and served under head coach Bob Stoops.
The training with Mike helped the team drastically, and they were ranked at the top in terms of offense, in which they were ranked in 12th position earlier.
It was after one year at Oklahoma that Mike joined the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Leach brought in certain changes in the team which only worked out in their favor and the team showcased a steady improvement in their performance. He continued with the team for many years. Leach earned around $1 million during the time period of 2006 – 2009.
While being the coach of the Red Raiders, Leach faced some serious backlashes, and the most serious one which was reported in 2009 resulted in the suspension of Leach and his eventual firing as the coach of the team. He was fired on the grounds of an argument about the inappropriate treatment of the player Adam James.

After leaving the Red Raiders, Lech joined Washington State in 2011. He had a five-year contract and was regarded as the fourth-highest-paid coach in the Pac-12.
Mike Leach is the current coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and he joined the team in 2020. According to the reports, the contract between Mike and the team agreed to pay him a sum of $5 million annually.
Mike Leach’s Personal Life
Michael Leach was born as the oldest of six children of Frank and Sandra Leach. Even though Leach was born in Susanville, California, he was raised in Cody, Wyoming.
He was raised as a Latter-day Saints (Mormon) member of the Church of Jesus Christ. Leach got married to Sharon and the couple had been together ever since. They have four children together. Additionally, they are grandparents to three grandchildren.
The reports about health issues were first reported on December 11. On the same evening, Ross Delenger, the reporter for Sports Illustrated reported that Leach was in critical condition.
