The American professional basketball player Maya Moore’s weight gain was a hot topic lately. Ever since she distanced herself from the sport, she has been seen gaining pounds, and now the basketball baron is nearly unrecognizable. The only reason Maya Moore gained weight is because of her pregnancy in 2022.
It seems like Moore’s life cycle is turning rapidly, as she has already announced her retirement in January 2023 on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Taking a four-year break must have greatly influenced her decision to make such a game-changing move. Moore will most likely be inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2024, as she has already retired and has been out of the game for four or more years.
According to Sports Illustrated, Moore was the performer of the year in 2017. She was also dubbed the greatest winner in women’s basketball history.
The 33-year-old athlete initially stayed away from basketball to pay more attention to her now-husband, Jonathan Irons, who has been freed from prison after serving 23 years for the charge he insisted he never committed.
Maya and her family support Irons, and currently, she wants to fight for criminal justice. But things would have been a mess if she was still tied to her basketball responsibilities.
Now that she is already a mom, she cannot dedicate her remaining time to basketball, although she is a tycoon in it. It is sad that such harsh moves are coming from someone who was named the WNBA MVP.
Moore was the foremost overall selection in the WNBA draft in 2011. She first played with Lyndsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus, and Rebeccah Brunson on the Minnesota Lynx team.
While looking at Maya Moore’s accomplishments as a player, one would certainly be astounded as she has bagged three WNBA All-Star MVPs, four WNBA championships, one WNBA scoring title, two Olympic gold medals, one WNBA Finals MVP Award, one WNBA MVP Award, and finally the Rookie of the Year Award in 2011.
After adding more than a couple of titles along with her name, how could Moore not be named by Time as one of the 100 Most Influential People in 2020?
Shortly after her retirement announcement, Moore shocked her fans with her brand-new appearance. From the very first sight, many realized she had broadened. They began to compare her to her former self, and many were shocked and disturbed to see her in such a state.
Reasons why Maya Moore Added a Few Pounds
Maya Moore, the successful WNBA player, put on a few pounds after she decided to take a break from basketball, where she was a pro.
However, a break was mandatory for her to run behind the bail of Irons, so we cannot make unnecessary comments on that. Soon after he was released, Irons proposed to her, and the duo married the next week.
Currently, Irons and Moore are husband and wife, and they’re finally glad to be reuniting without the presence of guardians, chains, or locks. According to them, it is freedom for both of them.
Since her husband has been freed, she wanted to do and feel several things together, in order to make their world a better place to live.
Their love story was filled with odd battles and terrible twists. She has tried a hundred times to prove he is not guilty of the robbery case which was charged upon him, but the release was delayed for years.
Iron was arrested when he was a teenager in 1998, and by now, he must have spent decades within the four walls of the Missouri prison. After multiple attempts, Moore’s husband was freed in mid-2020, and now they are living together as a family.

The second potential reason for Moore’s weight gain is said to be her 2022 delivery. Likewise, she had previously been chubby after her first delivery. But back then, she went through body image issues, and this time too, she was hesitant to go to court as she had lost her complete confidence.
Anyway, It is not the first time that a woman is gaining weight after pregnancy. It’s a rule of nature and the body can be regained if she wants to.
Maya Moore’s Weight Loss Routine After Her First Pregnancy
Since Moore is undeniably overweight now, people have been curious to know if she is going to a gym or not. Back then, when she delivered Jonathan Jr., her first kid, she used to follow a weight loss routine that included a lot of workouts like cardio, squats, weights, push-ups, and more.
But according to Moore herself, she wasn’t a workout freak but preferred to add a couple of them along with her strict diet. Apparently, she began her day with a green leafy juice, which helped her prevent bloating.
She must have been glad that she had previously learned diet lessons from WNBA veteran Kara Lawson back in 2013 when she stayed with her for training. She said that after the session she felt more energized and was glad that she could handle her new lifestyle without any problems.
She immediately lost nearly eight pounds which helped her relieve joint pains. Following that, she found it easy to play and defend her opponents. In 2014, she slowly improved as a basketball player and eventually earned her league MVP honors.
She recently admitted that her family would never be able to see her play basketball since she has already called it quits on the sport. Woefully, the legendary player would be heavily missed by her fans and teammates.
