Honey and stomach ache: what’s the connection?

Many people believe that honey is good for a sore throat and cough. According to the study by Dr Stephan Zafrani, honey has properties that help kill the flu virus in the throat.

Even though honey has been proved to kill the virus, it is not a foolproof remedy for a sore throat. The principle behind the report is that the very act of consuming honey kills a virus within your body and helps to improve your overall health.

It is suggested to sip honey instead of drinking warm tea. An alternative cure to a sore throat is sucking on a lemon.

Not all people are allergic to honey.

Even though you have this advice on a safe pair of lips, many people still experience symptoms associated with allergic reactions.

Does honey cause stomach aches?

Based on scientific studies, the answer is no.

Honey is known to be one of nature’s best healing agents, but so is onion, pepper, garlic, ginger, etc. The same paper cited earlier says that onions and pepper also cause stomach ache.

Honey is also used in cosmetics, medicine, soaps, and skincare products.

It is nothing more than a portion of healthy natural food that is great for the digestive system, skin, hair, etc. It can also help your hair to shine and moisturize.

Does it cause stomach ache?

It is the antioxidant power of honey that helps to eliminate the histamines that create stomach aches and gastritis.

According to some sources, honey can be used to reduce nausea, which is known as honey discomfort.

What causes stomach aches?

There is not much solid evidence to show that honey causes stomach aches. However, some things may cause you to feel nauseated after eating honey.

If you eat honey on an empty stomach, it may give you gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining). You may feel sick to your stomach and experience nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, or constipation.

What do the experts say?

A study published in the Medical Journal of Australia in 2008 conducted by researchers at The University of Queensland, and the Queensland University of Technology looked at the link between honey consumption and gastritis.

The study reported that consuming only honey with food caused bloating and gastrointestinal distress.

How can we cure a stomach ache?

Is honey a remedy for stomach ache? Many people do not like honey for a variety of reasons. But no matter what people think, honey is considered a harmless, healthy, and natural food, which can do wonders for a person’s health.

It is usually believed that honey is a cure-all for a person.

However, honey is naturally sweet, and it contains sugar, which can cause stomach ache.

The No.1 reason why honey may cause stomach ache is the fact that honey is known to contain fructose. This is because honey is extracted from flowers that contain high amounts of fructose.

HFCS or High Fructose Corn Syrup is a highly sweetened refined sugar that is found in many products. Many of these products are sugary cereals, processed fruit juices, and soft drinks.

What should we do if we’ve eaten honey and feel a little unwell?

Honey is considered a mild anti-microbial and a digestive tonic. This makes it a safe digestive tonic and thus considered safe to have regularly.

However, honey, when consumed with caffeine, can cause stomach aches, gas, constipation and other digestive discomforts.

You can add honey to milk, tea, coffee, etc., to make your morning or after dinner cup of tea or coffee more palatable and less likely to cause stomach ache.

Conclusion

Honey, being a natural product made from concentrated nectar, is safe for most people, but it is important to know that some individuals may have adverse reactions.

If you are sensitive to fructose or have any other health concerns, it may be best to consult your doctor before consuming it. We hope this information has been helpful, and if you have any additional questions you can comment below.
