Her Loss, the latest album from Drake and 21 Savage, has been released after days of teasing and trolling by the rappers. Drake had sent earlier sent the internet into a frenzy and left stans in shock after posting a series of odd Instagram stories, including a screenshot of hentai sparking a crazy meme fest online.
The two rappers first made their collaborative effort official in October. They also debuted a music video, for their collaborative song “Jimmy Cooks,” which is on Drake’s most recent solo album, Honestly, Nevermind. The two men were shown rapping in front of multiple screens that were illuminated with vibrant imagery of city life in the Mahfuz Sultan-directed film.
Sincerely, Nevermind moved 204,000 equivalent album units in its first week to become Drake’s 11th number-one album to appear on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Drake became the fifth artist with more than 10 No. 1 albums thanks to this accomplishment.
However, the rapper chose not to submit the album for a Grammy nomination, making this the second year in a row that he did not submit anything.
In recent years, 21 Savage and Drake have collaborated numerous times. Drake had guest appearances on Metro Boomin’s Savage Mode II and “Mr. Right Now” by 21 Savage, whereas 21 Savage made a special appearance on “Knife Talk” the Certified Lover Boy song by Drake. On “Cash In Cash Out” on June, 21 Savage collaborated with Tyler, the Creator, and Pharrell.
As the last track of his seventh studio album, Honestly, Nevermind, Drake had released “Jimmy Cooks” with 21 Savage on June 17 of 2022. The song was the album’s most popular track when it was first released, debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
However, it wasn’t until October 11 that the song was formally served to mainstream radio as a single. Later, at a 21 Savage concert in Atlanta on October 19, Drake made a surprise appearance.
Then, on October 20, Drake said that the “Jimmy Cooks” music video would debut the following day, on 21 Savage’s 30th birthday.
That day saw the eventual release of the video. At 1:25, writing in typographic letters that read “Her Loss – album by Drake and 21 Savage – October 28, 2022” temporarily disrupted the visuals. OVO and Republic then announced the album on their social media accounts.
The rapper pair have previously worked together on other projects In addition to “Jimmy Cooks” including “Sneakin” (2016), “Issa” (2017), “Mr. Right Now” (2020), and “Knife Talk” (2021).
On October 26, Drake revealed that the Her Loss album’s release date had been postponed to November 4, 2022, because OVO record producer 40 hired COVID-19 while the album was being mixed and mastered.
On November 1, Drake and 21 Savage started a phony press tour for the album using methods that are frequently employed to promote albums. The rappers shared the cover, which featured the model Qui Yasuka, on their Instagram accounts on November 2. On November 3, the tracklist was made public.
The album is now finally here as it was made available on November 4, 2022, through OVO, Republic, Slaughter Gang, and Epic.
Travis Scott makes an appearance on the 16-track album in the song “Pussy & Millions.” A sample and vocal interpolation from Daft Punk’s Discovery hit “One More Time” may be heard in the song “Circo Loco.”
