The Arsenal Star Eddie Nketiah, 23, is reportedly reluctant to change his nationality because he wants to play for England in the future. He will not get the chance to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this winter.
Since the Ghana FA appears to have lost interest in the player. Eddie Nketiah is not in Gareth Southgate’s plans for England, but if he had committed to Ghana, he would have been in the team.
Arsenal Star Eddie Nketiah – Will Not Play At The 2022 World Cup For Ghana!
The Black Stars, featuring Jordan Ayew of Crystal Palace and Mohammed Kudus of Ajax, had hoped that Eddie Nketiah would switch to lead the line for them. Nketiah stated: “My parents are both from Ghana, so of course, it’s a possibility”.
In an interview with The Beautiful Game Podcast in April. I’m willing to play for either Ghana or England. Being from Ghana, it goes without saying that you are pleased with their World Cup qualification. I am glad for players like Partey because I know them.
It’s always advantageous to have the capability to do that. The 23-year-old has once again had trouble securing a starting position in the team since agreeing to a new long-term contract at the Emirates over the summer.
Eddie Nketiah Signed A New Contract With Arsenal
Eddie Nketiah is reportedly in North London until 2027 thanks to a new contract he recently signed with Arsenal. The 23-year-old has played for Arsenal in 10 Premier League matches this season without scoring a goal, but in three Europa League games thus far.
Eddie Nketiah has two goals and one assist. In the summer, Nketiah’s contract with Arsenal was about to expire, and other Premier League teams were reportedly interested in signing him. Eddie Nketiah will now don Arsenal’s storied No. 14.
Which was also worn by the club’s all-time leading scorer, Thierry Henry.
Many Attempts From Gfa In Vain
Before the World Cup in Qatar, Ghana made multiple attempts to persuade Eddie Nketiah to join Otto Addo’s team. The forward has yet to appear for the Three Lions at the senior level despite a strong U21 season. With 16 goals in 17 appearances.
Eddie Nketiah holds the U21 scoring record for England. While acting as captain under Aidy Boothroyd in March 2021, Nketiah made his final appearance for England at the underage level. Since then, it has come to light that he earlier this year.
Expressed a willingness to switch allegiance to the Black Stars. The celebrity, who was born in London, is still hesitant to get married. In reaction to his comments, the GFA intensified its effort to persuade Nketiah to register for Ghana in anticipation of Qatar 2022.
The governing body is certain that the Arsenal product will help Addo’s frontline in Group H matches against Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea. But with much less than a month until Ghana’s World Cup campaign gets underway.
Eddie Nketiah is yet to give Addo his OK for a call-up. Instead, the striker doesn’t seem to want to represent the Black Stars in Qatar. He is therefore probably giving up on the chance to compete in this World Cup.
Future For Eddie Nketiah
It is almost clear that Nketiah won’t get the chance to play in the competition, which begins on November 20, as he is reluctant to devote his career to the West African nation. Inaki Williams of Athletic Bilbao, who played for Spain in 2016, made his first appearance for Ghana previously.
This year, Tariq Lamptey of Brighton transferred from England to Ghana. Mohammed Salisu, a defender for Southampton, has been added, giving The GFA hope for the Black Stars’ future success.
However, Eddie Nketiah’s arrival, coupled with players like Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew and Athletic Bilbao’s Williams, might boost the ante in their attack.
