THOUSANDS of low-income families will receive a bank boost as of today after the Child Payment was increased by £5 per week, and tens of thousands of Scottish households will receive an additional £260 annually.
The payout will now be £25 per week for households with at least one kid receiving specified benefits.
Eligible families will receive the $5 weekly increase in their next monthly payment, totaling £260 per year.
In addition, the weekly payout is now available to families with children under the age of 16.
Previously, it was only offered to families with children under the age of six.
Who Is Qualified To Get The Payment?
You must be receiving one of the following benefits to get the £25 weekly payment:
◾ Child Tax Credit
◾ Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
◾ Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
◾ Income Support
◾ Pension Credit
◾ Universal Credit – if your UC is reduced to £0 by a sanction or a deduction, you can still get Scottish Child Payment
◾ Working Tax Credit
You can still apply for the Scottish Child Payment if you have applied for one of the benefits listed above but have not yet received a decision.
You must also demonstrate that you or your partner are the legal guardians of the child under 16 on the date of application.
You can do so by demonstrating:
- Receiving Child Benefit
- Being accountable for them for Child Tax Credit
- Being a relative caregiver
If you are a relative caregiver, you must present a court order or letter from the local government.
This could take the form of a familial care order, a compulsory supervision order, a residence order, a permanency order, or a guardianship order.
How Should I Apply?
Your local government is responsible for allocating and distributing the funds, therefore you should visit their website for additional information.
Additionally, the Social Security Scotland freephone hotline number is 0800 182 2222.
Plus, you can apply online or by mail via the website of the Scottish Government.
However, the Social Security Hotline will be “very busy” today, November 14, so it may be easier for families to apply online.
If you put your mobile number on your application, you will receive a text message every two weeks informing you of the status of your application until you receive a decision letter.
As soon as the application has been processed, the funds will be deposited into your bank account.
Payments will go back to the date that the application was sent.
What Further Assistance Is Available?
Even if you do not reside in Scotland, there is still ample assistance available.
Through the Household Support Fund, thousands of households can get £100 in free cash for food, heating bills, and other basics during winter.
The new pool of £421 million has been accessible since October of this year and will remain so until March of 2023.
However, the amount you receive will vary on where you reside, as each council has been allotted a different sum and is distributing it differently.
To see what assistance may be available, you should contact your local municipality.
In addition, millions of homes have begun receiving a £400 savings on their energy bills.
The payment is distributed by energy suppliers in six installments between October and March of following year.
In October and November, households will receive a £66 savings on their energy bills, followed by a £67 discount in December, January, February, and March.
In addition, hundreds of thousands of families can get £2,000 in tax-free income to assist with childcare costs through the tax-free childcare plan.
If you have a kid with a disability, you can receive up to £4,000 each year.
A one-time “Pensioner Cost of Living Payment” of £300 will be distributed to eight million households this month.
It will be paid to people who currently get the winter fuel payment, which ranges from £100 to £300 for those over the age of state pension.
In addition, millions more homes will receive the £150 Warm Home Discount between December 2022 and March 2023.
Frequently, energy companies give energy subsidies and assistance programs to those in need.
