KAMPALA | LIFESTYLE UGANDA — South African Music Awards (SAMAs) winners for this year were announced via virtual broadcast on 31 July 2021. Amapiano King Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa won the most awards on the night with three gongs.

They also took home awards in the categories of Best Amapiano Album, Duo/Group of the Year and Album of the Year. Kabza De Small took home the Male Artist of the Year award for his I Am The King of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust album.
Blaq Diamond became the first Afropop group to win Artist of the Year at the SAMAs, Matthew Mole won Record of the Year, and Miss Pru won Music Video of the Year.
SAMRO Composer Highest Airplay went to Master KG and Nomcebo Zikode, and Bucy Radebe recorded two trophies in the categories of Newcomer of the Year and Best Traditional Faith Album.
Master KG was awarded the International Achiever Award for his global smash hit, Jerusalem, featuring Nomcebo Zikode. The SAMAs also recognized Lebo M, Dr Lindelani Mkhize, and PJ Powers with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Female Artist of the Year and Best Traditional Album went to Sho Madjozi, Nasty C won Best Hip Hop Album and Zinaro won Best Gqom Album.
Bontle Moloi and Lawrence Maleka hosted the event, which featured performances by local artists Sjava, Buhlebendalo, Azana, Boity, Langa Mavuso, Big Zulu and Bucy Radebe.
The RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi congratulated the winners of SAMA27.
“Congratulations to the SAMA27 winners,” RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said.
Nhlanhla Sibisi said: “They have etched their names into the history of South African music, what a proud moment for RiSA and the SAMAs. They will continue to focus on local talent.”
