Louis DeJoy is an American businessman and currently serves as the 75th United States Postmaster General. DeJoy took up the position of Postmaster General on June 16, 2020.
Before taking up the position, DeJoy was the CEO of New Breed Logistics, which is a logistics and freight company that was founded by him and later acquired by the Connecticut-based freight transporter XPO Logistics.
Political inclination of DeJoy leans toward the Republican party, for which he was a major fundraiser and donor.
The appointment of DeJoy in the position of the Postmaster General also gave rise to different controversies as he was the first person to be appointed in the position in two decades who did not have any prior experience with the United States Postal Service.
After assuming the office as the Postmaster General, DeJoy gave rise to new controversies through his new rules and regulations.
His moves which saw the elimination of overtime, banning additional or late trips to deliver mail, decommissioning of hundreds of mail sorting machines, and the removal of several mail collection boxes from public places all led to controversy, and the Postal Services were very much affected by his new methods.

Louis DeJoy was born in Brooklyn, New York. While there is a slight confusion in his date of birth, it is speculated that DeJooy was born in 1956/1957, which will bring him up to be around 65/66 years old as of now.
Even though he was born in Brooklyn, DeJoy spent most of his childhood in Islip, New York, where he spent most of his childhood.
After completing his high school education, Louis DeJoy attended Stetson University in Florida and earned a BBA in accounting. After completing his education at the university, DeJoy became a certified public accountant.
Louis DeJoy – Career As A Businessman
Before being appointed as the Postmaster General, DeJoy had a successful career in business but he did not have any experience with the United States Postal Services.
DeJoy started his business career through his venture New Breed Logistics. He founded the company and served as the CEO of the company from 1983 to 2014.
The company was acquired by the American transportation company XPO Logistics and the reported value of DeJoy’s company was around $615 million. After his company was acquired by XPO Logistics, he also served with them as the CEO of their supply chain business in North America.
He later retired from his position and was on the board of directors of the company but retired from all his roles in the company in 2018. DeJoy used to serve as the president of LDJ Global Strategies when he was appointed as the Postmaster General.
Louis DeJoy – Postmaster General Of The US Postal Service
Louis DeJoy was appointed as the Postmaster General of the United States Postal Services on May 6, 2020, and he assumed office on June 16, 2020.
The appointment of DeJoy gave rise to many questions from different people; he was the first postmaster general to be appointed in two decades who did not have any prior experience with the department.
The subsequent measures taken by DeJoy in the department also attracted many backlashes. He banned practices like overtime and extra trips taken to deliver mail.
He also decommissioned hundreds of high-speed mail sorting machines. As his measure was put into action without internal communication, it affected the overall working of the services and slowed down mail services.
After assuming his position in the Postal Services, DeJoy also reassigned or displaced almost 23 senior officials from the department. When asked about his new measures, DeJoy replied that he was trying to breathe new life into a broken business model.
He was also strongly criticized for his business outside the department. Even after he was appointed as the Postmaster General, DeJoy has around $30 – $75 million equity stake in XPO and is currently a subcontractor for the USPS.
He also has reportedly purchased stock options on Amazon too. The fact that there was an increase in the business of USPS with XPO and the priority that they give to Amazon package delivery has definitely landed DeJoy in a difficult situation.
Louis DeJoy – Republican Fundraiser
Throughout his career as a successful businessman, DeJoy has also served as a fundraiser for some of the most reputed Republican party leaders.
He was an active contributor to the 2004 re-election campaign for George W. Bush. Reports suggest that DeJoy has made a donation of $27,700 to the presidential campaign fund of Jeb Bush in 2016.
In 2020, The Washington Post and The New York Times came up against DeJoy and his former company New Breed Logistics.
In one of their reports which was based on a former employee from the company, they claimed that he participated in a straw donor scheme.
The former employee claimed that DeJoy made his employees, especially the managers, make contributions to Republican fundraisers, and the amount they paid was reimbursed by the company through their annual bonuses.

The net worth of Louis DeJoy is estimated to be $110 million. The major source of his huge income is his highly successful business ventures. He owned a successful logistics company which was later acquired by XPO Logistics for about $615 million.

Even though he put an end to his business ventures, DeJoy was appointed as the Postmaster General of the United States Postal Services, a job that comes with a valuable paycheck.
Louis DeJoy – Personal Life And Family
Louis DeJoy is a family man and he is married to Aldona Wos. Wos used to be a physician and she is very much involved in American politics. She is a Polish-American woman who served as the Ambassador to Estonia when George W. Bush was in the White House.
While Donald Trump served as the president of the United States, he expressed his wish to nominate Wos as the Ambassador to Canada but her nomination expired as the new congress took charge in 2021 January.
The couple had been together since their marriage and they have twins together. As both DeJoy and Wos are two prominent figures who are known to the public, the couple wants their kids to have a normal childhood and tries to keep them away from unwanted public attention.
The couple also has two homes, one in the Kalorama neighborhood in Washington and one in Irving Park Historic District.
