South Korean rapper, Composer, and record producer Kim Nam-Joon is better known by his stage name Rap Monster (RM). He is the leader of the famous South Korean boys band ‘Bangtan Sonyeondan’ popularly known as BTS.
His South Korean followers commonly refer to him as “Rapmon.” He excelled academically and made a wonderful understudy. He began rapping at an early age and decided to pursue it as a career. Before joining ‘BTS,’ he started as an independent performer and sang with a few local bands.
He became the leader of the group and the primary rapper and lyricist after joining “BTS.” he has collaborated with well-known Korean and international rappers to produce music that has become a sensation.
Early Life And Family
Kim Nam-Joon was born on September 12, 1994 in Ilsan-gu, Goyang, South Korea. He was raised alongside his younger sister, Kim Geong Min, in Seoul.
In elementary school, he was attracted with uniforms and desired to work as a security guard for a housing organization.
He attended Global Cyber University and chose Broadcasting and Performing Arts as his majors. He had a TOEIC score of over 900, which is commendable. And he was among the top scorers on the national school test.
He also had a very high IQ. In school, he picked up both Japanese and his native tongue. He also learned English by watching well-known American sitcoms like “Friends.” In addition, he self-taught the language of English, which he thought was crucial, while attending school in New Zealand.
RM’s Musical Career
Joon began his musical career as an independent performer going by the name “Runch Randa.” He performed in 2008 with the group “Zico,” which at the time was a rising sensation in South Korea’s hip-hop industry. He also played a significant role for a while in the Korean hip-hop group “Daenamhyup.”
Later in 2013, he became a member of the renowned K-pop group BTS, also known as the Bangtan Sonyeondan, and earned the nickname “Rap Monster” among his followers.
In June 2013, he debuted a single collection with BTS called “2Cool 4 Skool” with the popular song “No More Dream.” From that point on, he wrote the lyrics for many of BTS’ songs and rose to become the group’s leader and lead rapper.
Apart from BTS, he has collaborated with a variety of Korean and foreign experts to produce the most well-known rap music singles and albums that went viral online between 2014 and 2016. These songs include Warren G’s “Please Don’t Die,” MFBTY’s “Bucku,” and Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” soundtrack.
If we take RM’s solo career, he debuted his solo album “RM” in March 2015, and in October 2018, he released “Mono” his second mixtape.

Awards And Achievements
RM received recognition in 2013 at the Golden Disk Awards and Melon Music Awards. Once more in 2013, he received an award at the Seoul Music Awards and Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards.
In June 2022, during BTS’ ninth-anniversary events, RM declared that the band members will focus more on their own musical projects coming forward and that new music would be released as paid albums with associated marketing campaigns rather than free or unpromoted mixtapes.
Then in September, the alt-Kpop group Balming Tiger featured him as a featured artist on their single “Sexy Nukim.”
On December 2, he released “Indigo,” his debut solo studio album, which featured the single “Wild Flower” as its lead.
