He began preaching when he was barely 5. In the next five years, Sharpton took over the position of Pentecostal minister. However, education was still a primary choice for the family and therefore Sharpton attended Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn and he further went to Brooklyn College.

In 1972, Sharpton accepted the position of youth director with deep pleasure and served in the presidential campaign of the American politician, Shirley Chisholm.

In 1969, Shapton was appointed by the Baptist minister Jess Jackson to work for the New York City branch of Operation Breadbasket, an organization made for the development of black communities.
In less than half a decade, he established the National Youth Movement which was dedicated to empowering the youth.

In early 1994, Sharpton delivered a motivational speech before a crowd at Kean University in New Jersey which later turned out to be a controversial subject.
He sounded like suppressing the white men when he said they were in the caves, “when he was building empires.” He further added that he taught astrology, philosophy, and mathematics before the Greek philosopher Socrates “and the Greek homos” could never get around it.
The word “homo” he used created great havoc, whereas Sharpton dismissed the raised eyebrows by asserting he never referred homo to as homophobic.
In 2002, Sharpton was caught being the middleman of a drug deal as a videotape was leaked claiming so. However, he denied the allegation and opposed it claiming he had not received any alleged commission amount nor had he been a part of any such immoral deal.
In 2005, he appeared in multiple television commercials to promote LoanMax, a title loan company, but people questioned him for providing support to something like LoanMax which used to charge daily fees.

Assassination Attempt On Al Sharpton In 1991
In 1991, Sharpton reportedly escaped a serious injury while he was about to lead a protest through Brooklyn, New York.
He was heavily stabbed in the chest by an intoxicated attacker named Michael Riccardi who was immediately apprehended by Sharpton’s aides.
Later, Riccardi was convicted of a murder attempt and was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison.
Al Sharpton’s Personal Life
While Sharpton was taking a tour with James Brown, he came across his future sweetheart, Kathy Jordan, with whom the politician tied the knot in 1980.
Although they split in 2004, the New York Daily News claimed that while Sharpton was married to his ex-wife Jordan, he was still in an illegitimate relationship with his girlfriend, Aisha McShaw, who was both a personal banker and a personal stylist.
