Frozen 2 sets the stage for more Anna and Elsa adventures. But, when might we see Frozen 3, and what will it be about?
Is There a Frozen 3?
Disney’s Frozen 2 got mixed reviews, but it made a lot of money. So, Disney decided to make Frozen 3. Jennifer Lee, who co-directed Frozen 2 with Chris Buck, is working on it. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed Frozen 3, and it’s in the early stages of being made. Most of the cast will probably come back. But, we don’t know what’s happening to Elsa and Anna in the next movie.
Frozen 2 doesn’t have a traditional villain like Frozen’s Prince Hans. Instead, it concludes with clarity for Arendelle and the Northuldra tribe. Unlike “Let It Go,” the sequel’s theme song, “Into the Unknown,” is introspective, matching the movie’s deeper themes.
The ending sets the stage for new directions in the story. It led to intense speculation about what’s next for Elsa, Anna, Sven, Christoph, and of course, Olaf, in Frozen 3.
The Latest Frozen 3 News
The most recent Frozen 3 update doesn’t pertain directly to the sequel but affirms an ongoing narrative in the Frozen world. It serves as a bridge between Frozen 2 and the forthcoming third installment. Disney has revealed a new podcast series, “Frozen: Force of Nature”. It will be set after the events of Frozen 2.
This 12-episode adventure is set to extend the tales of Elsa and Anna while introducing a host of intriguing new characters. The podcast’s release date remains undisclosed. But, a synopsis has been made available, heightening the anticipation for this exciting addition to the Frozen saga.
Frozen 3 Has Been Confirmed
Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, officially confirmed Frozen 3 during the Disney Q1 earnings call through Deadline. In addition to the next Frozen sequel, Iger also revealed plans for sequels to Toy Story and Zootopia.
In his announcement in February 2023, Iger stated, “Today I’m so pleased to announce that we have sequels in the works from our animation studios to some of our most popular franchises, Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia. We’ll have more to share about these productions soon. But, this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.”
Frozen 3 Cast
As the project for Frozen 3 has only recently received the green light, the cast has not been officially confirmed yet. However, given that most of the key cast members returned for Frozen 2, it’s highly likely they’ll be back for Frozen 3.
Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, has confirmed her return. But, she’s yet to receive specific details about the sequel. Kristen Bell is expected to reprise her role as Anna, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, and the lovable Sven, voiced by Frank Welker, should also make a return.
Comedian Josh Gad is likely to grace the screen again as Olaf. Notably, Jennifer Lee, the original director, won’t helm Frozen 3, and Disney is in search of a new director for the project.
Frozen 3’s Story
The Frozen 3 storyline is expected to pick up from where Frozen 2 concluded, but precise details are still speculative at this early stage. Frozen 2 took a unique approach by not featuring a traditional villain; it centered on uncovering the origins of Elsa’s powers and revealing Arendelle’s past secrets. Despite this, it did remind the audience of Prince Hans, the villain from the first Frozen movie.
Hans is subtly referenced in Frozen 2 through charades, conversation between Anna and Kristoff, and Olaf’s portrayal of him during a plot summary. We also briefly see Hans in an icy form when Elsa explores Ahtohallan. Given these hints, it’s possible for Disney to reintroduce Hans as a villain in Frozen 3.
With Anna as Queen of Arendelle and Elsa caring for the Enchanted Forest, the introduction of a new villain could disrupt the peaceful coexistence between these lands.
Hans, known for his deviousness, could find a way to return and create problems for the sisters. Alternatively, Frozen 3 might explore a new generation, focusing on the children of Anna or Elsa, taking the story in an exciting new direction.
Frozen 3 Release Date
While there is no official release date for Frozen 3 at the moment, considering Disney’s unannounced movie slots in 2025 and the historical release pattern of the first two Frozen films in November, it’s reasonable to expect that Frozen 3 will likely be scheduled for November 2025. A potential release date could be November 26th, 2025. But, this is still speculative until officially confirmed by Disney.
Wrapping Up
Frozen 3 is in the works, continuing the beloved story of Elsa and Anna, with a likely release in November 2025, building on the success of the first two films and introducing the possibility of a new villain or a next generation of characters. Excitement is high among fans eagerly awaiting more magical adventures in the Frozen universe.
