After months of waiting, Warner Bros has finally revealed further details about the new online streaming platform from the company. The service will be a combination of HBO Max and Discovery + and the contents of both these media houses will be available on the new platform named Max.
The announcement regarding the new platform was made on Wednesday at the streaming event held in Stage 14, Los Angeles.
Along with the name of the new streaming service, the company also revealed the details regarding the launch of the new service, the price of the different packages provided by the platform, the new features that will be added to the platform, and also regarding the contents that will be available on the platform.
The new streaming service that combines HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery is named Max and the new platform is set to launch on May 23 in the United States. As the first step of the launch, the service will be limited to the United States only.
As the second step, the platform will be made available for viewers in Europe and later for Asia-Pacific regions. The second step of the expansion is expected to be completed by 2024.
The new logo of the platform has incorporated the color blue into it as a representation of the Discovery platform. The tagline of Max is ‘One to Watch.’
The next big thing about the platform is the different packages available for views. Like every other online streaming service, there are different packages to choose from depending on the service that the customer wishes to enjoy.
One good news about the subscription packages is that there is no change in the price of the plans for HBO Max subscribers. The monthly ad-supported plans will come at a price range of $9.99 and the monthly ad-free package comes at a price of $15. 99.
Apart from these two basic plans, the platform also offers another additional package which is named ‘Max Ultimate Free.’ The monthly charge for this package is $19.99 and it comes with the additional perk of streaming your favorite movie shows in 4K HDR video quality.
Along with the enhanced quality, the plan also allows the user to use the service on four different devices simultaneously and also allows 100 offline downloads.
The additional plan that allows access to higher quality comes with a huge similarity to the additional plan provided by the online streaming platform Netflix, which is seen as a major competition for Max. Netflix also offers their subscribers premium HD video quality for a monthly charge of $19.99.
As Warner Bros Discovery joins with HBO Max, the company previously stated that Discovery+ will remain a standalone platform in the United States. This means that people who have already subscribed to the platform do not need to switch to a higher plan if they did not want to.
As per the current plans, Discovery+ is available to customers for $4.99 per month with ads and $6.99 for ad-free streaming. During the time of the announcement, the company also mentioned that new features will be added to Max eventually, to make the experience even better for the customer.
As for the content that will be available on the platform, Max will give the customers full access to different hit programs which are both scripted and unscripted, from both the platforms – HBO Max and Discovery+.
While Max will allow the user to watch popular shows like Euphoria, Succession, 90 Day Finance, and other such content, there will also be a whole new set of original programs that will be arriving on the platform very soon.
Along with the already popular shows, the platform is also all set to welcome the coming seasons of some of the hit shows of recent times like House of the Dragons, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus.
Along with the announcement of the new platform, the company also made another exciting announcement about the new Harry Potter Max Original series. There was a confirmation about the program and the executives of the company said that the show will be coming to the streaming platform.

Along with the Harry Potter show, the company also announced that a few more original ships will be made available on the platform in the coming days. Some of the programs that can be expected to see on the platform include;
- The Penguin – A Batman Spinoff series with actors like Colin Farrel as villains.
- The Big Bang Theory Project (Yet to be named) – a new comedy series that will be based on the popular IP
- The Conjuring Project (Yet to be named) – a new drama series that will be based on the movies from the popular Conjuring Universe
- True Detective: Night County – a spin-off series with actors like Jodie Foster and Kali Reis
- How To Be a Bookie – new series with Sebastian Maniscalco in the lead
- SmartLess: On the Road – TV series about the popular podcast ‘Started’ from actors Sean Hayes, Will Arnet, and Jason Bateman.
- Fixer Upper: The Hotel – new series featuring Chip and Joana Gaines about renovating a historic building in downtown Waco.
- Love and Translation – Relationship series in which three American males attempt to connect with 12 non-English-speaking women.
The list of the new programs that will be added to the platform is not complete as they have announced that there will be more showing along with the one mentioned, that will be added to the platform.
