Viola Davis now holds the EGOT status, which is the accomplishment of winning the Emmy, the Grammy, the Oscar, and the Tony Awards. Davis was honored with the Grammys Awards in the 2023 annual awards function.
She won the award in the category of Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for her work Finding Me. It was her first nomination for the Grammy Awards.
Davis was the only female nominee in the Best Audio Book category. The other nominees in the category Lin – Manuel Miranda, Jamie Foxx, Questlove, and Mel Brooks.

Finding Me was Davis’s memoir released in 2022 as an audio version in the form of an audiobook. Davis grew up in the middle of poverty and in her girlhood, she had to endure domestic violence and sexual abuse. She is a survivor of alcoholism.

One of her widely received roles was in Fences in 2016, in which she portrayed the role of the wife of Denzel Washington a garbage collector by the name of Troy Maxson. The name of her character was Rose Lee Maxson. Davis won her first BAFTA Award and her third Screen Actors Guild Award for Rosie. She also won her first Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress.
Davis is dignified with the Triple Crown of Acting, which requires at least a win in the Academy Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, and Tony Awards in the acting category.
While accepting the award she said that she wrote the book to honor the 6-year-old Viola; to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, and everything that was about her. She added that it has just been such as journey.
She acknowledged she is now an EGOT. Davis conveyed her gratitude by mentioning everybody who was a part of her story and the best chapter yet.
She exclusively thanked Julius Tennon, her husband, and Genesis, her daughter by referring to them as her life. She said that they were her joy and the best chapter of her book.
In the previous, Jennifer Hudson achieved the EGOT status after her 2022 Tony Awards win. The other EGOT winners from history, in reverse chronological order, are Alan Menken, John Legend, Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Robert Lopez, Scott Rudin, Whoopi Goldberg, Mike Nichols, Mel Brooks, Jonathan Tunick, Marvin Hamlisch, Audrey Hepburn, John Gielgud, and Rita Moreno.
Helena Hayes was the first woman to have acquired the EGOT status. The first person to achieve the status was Richard Rogers in 1962. The only person to have completed two EGOTs is Robert Lopez. Out of the total 18 winners, only six females have achieved the status.
