The Ultimate Factors When You Need to Replace Air Conditioner Filter

When is the best time to replace the air conditioner filter at home? Does it have to be replaced once a month, every 3 months, or maybe once every 6 months?

Well, the question of when to change the filter in the air conditioning system will depend on the level of use of the air conditioner itself and several other factors such as the environment, weather, and your health condition.

To know more about when is the best time to change the air conditioner air filter, you can see the following factors that we’ve curated below.

1. How Often Air Conditioner is Being Used

It’s common for individuals to operate their air conditioner units at varying times each day. Some may not even use the air conditioner daily, opting for its use only a few days a week. If rarely used, the air conditioner filter can even be replaced once a year.

However, if the air conditioner unit is being turned on every day, you will need to consider replacing it every 3-6 months. Meanwhile, for those of you who use air conditioning for more than 10 hours daily, it is highly recommended to change the air conditioner filter every 1-2 months.

2. Weather Factor

During the rainy season, the surroundings tend to stay humid compared to dry periods. As the soil and dirt around the house remain damp, they’re less likely to be blown around by the wind. Consequently, furniture and electronic appliances like air conditioning systems typically don’t accumulate as much dirt during the wetter period.

On the other hand, when the dry season arrives, the soil around you will become dry – thus all the dust will fly more easily. Thus, it is not surprising that in the dry season, the house tends to get dirty more easily and needs to be cleaned more often. Likewise with air conditioning systems, especially filter components.

3. Environmental Factors

In addition to weather factors, environmental factors can also affect whether or not the air conditioning system filter is dirty or not. One example of environmental factors that can affect how often air filters need replacement is pollution. Pollution can be caused by motor vehicles or factory smoke.

If your house happens to be close to a factory, or maybe on the side of the highway – it may cause you to need to replace your air conditioner filter more often. This surrounding makes it very easy for the air conditioning system filter in your home to get dirty easily.

4. Are There Any Pets in the House?

If you live with pets such as cats or dogs, this will also affect the air quality at your home. Those who have pets should consider replacing their air conditioning filters more often compared to people who do not keep animals at home.

According to experts, if you keep a cat or dog, at the very least you have to change the filter once every 2 months. The more animals you keep at home, the shorter your air conditioner filter lifespan is.

5. Number of Residents in the House

If your household includes children or other family members alongside yourself, it’s advisable to change the air conditioner filter more frequently. Increased occupancy can lead to faster accumulation of dust and particles, necessitating more frequent filter changes to maintain clean and efficient air conditioning.

You and your family’s health conditioner should also be taken into consideration. If you or other family members suffer from allergies, it is highly recommended to change the air conditioner filter regularly every 1 or 2 months.

Also do keep in mind, for individuals with specific health conditions like allergies, it’s not recommended to only clean the air conditioner filter using a vacuum and reinstall it. Instead, it’s better to opt for a complete filter replacement.

This precaution is needed, because even after vacuuming, air filters in air conditioner systems might not be entirely free from allergens. Mold, dust, and allergens often adhere to the filter and may not completely vanish during cleaning, posing risks for those with allergies. Replacing the filter reduces the chances of allergen exposure and ensures a cleaner, healthier air conditioning system.

Their skilled team ensures a smooth and efficient process for air conditioner cleaning or replacement. By entrusting them, you can safeguard the health of both your air conditioner unit and yourself!
