On November 12, 2021, the winners of the SABC Crown Gospel Awards were announced at the Playhouse Theatre in Durban, South Africa.
Takie Ndou won two prizes in the categories of Best Gospel Album and Best Gospel Songwriter. Xolly Mncwango was named the Best Newcomer Gospel Artist, while Ayanda Ntanzi and Thobekile Mkhwanazi were named the Best Male Gospel Artist and Best Female Gospel Artist, respectively.
Janet Manyowa of Zimbabwe won the Best of Africa Gospel category, besting Botswana’s Tsepo Lesole, Nigeria’s Cross Ugo 2v, and Zimbabwe‘s Minister Michael Mahendere (Zimbabwe).
“Fourteen award shows, fourteen years later #HeIsStillJehovah,” declared the founder and executive producer of the SABC Crown Gospel Awards, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. “As the global powerhouse of gospel music, we are ecstatic to have reached this milestone, and we are grateful to God for carrying us thus far. Through the Crown Gospel Music Awards, we have not only been able to honor artists, but we have also provided a platform where singers’ God-given ability can be recognized.”
In the categories of Best Gospel Song, Best Gospel Artist, Best Amazion, Best Community Radio Gospel Show, and Best Commercial/PBS Radio Gospel Show, voting is still open. The audience can vote for their favorite performers by texting category numbers (for instance, Crown00) to 34069; results will be announced on November 20.
