Along with many other celebrities, popular actress Jennifer Coolidge has also expressed her support and solidarity with the ongoing Writers Guild of America union strike.
The White Lotus actress expressed her support for the strike while accepting the Comedic Genius Award at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards which took place on Sunday.
Jennifer made her acceptance speech through a video as the event was canceled a few days back, owing to the ongoing strike of the writers.
During her acceptance speech, Jennifer Coolidge gave a shout-out to the writers by saying that all great comedy starts with a great writer and that being a proud member of SAG (Screen Actors Guild), she stands together with her brothers and sisters who are fighting right now for the rights of writers everywhere.
Coolidge also quoted the famous writer Shakespeare who said ‘The Play’s the thing.’ She emphasized the quote and also the importance of the work that is carried out by the writers.
Jennifer Coolidge had been a part of the industry for decades but her recent project The White Lotus gave new heights to her career and she received different prestigious awards including a Primetime Emmy Award for her portrayal of the character Tanya in the series.
Jennifer also thanked MTV for awarding her with the Comedic Genius Award and also gave a shout-out to the different artists who have won the award before her including Melissa McCarthy, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, and so on.

The MTV Award show was originally scheduled to take place as a live event on Sunday. But the ceremony was canceled and moved to a clip-based one.
One of the major reasons for the cancellation of the show was the last-minute cancellation of Drew Barrymore who was supposed to host the event. Drew withdrew from the ceremony last minute to express her support to the writers who are currently on strike.
In a statement made that announced her withdrawal from hosting the show, Drew Barrymore said that she has listened to the writers who were currently on strike, and in order to truly respect them, she has decided to pivot from hosting the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Award.
She also added that it was her way of showing solidarity towards the strike and the writers.
Barrymore ended her statement by saying that everything that we celebrate and honor about movies and other shows is borne out of the writer and that until a solution for the problems faced by the writers is reached she was willing to wait.
Just like the cancellation of the MTV Movie and TV Awards, many other functions and television shows have also extended their support towards the strike by taking a break.
Popular television talk shows that have gone on hiatus in support of the ongoing strike include The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night Show with Seth Meyers, This Week Tonight with John Oliver, Real Time with Bill Maher, and The Daily Show.
These shows are currently running reruns of their previous episode and are expected to continue until the hiatus is over.
The strike of the Writers Guild of America started May 2, 2023, Tuesday after the contract negotiations the association had with studios, streaming services, and networks did not fetch an acceptable solution for the side.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) currently stands for more than 11,500 writers and these writers span across different fields like movies, television, and other different divisions of entertainment.
The strike of the writer has seriously impacted the entertainment industry as a majority of television shows and programs have gone on hiatus, in support of the strike of the writers.
Along with Jennifer Coolidge, the MTV Movies & TV Awards functions also saw many different artists express their support towards the ongoing strike by the writers in the industry. Another notable star who extended his support for the strike was Pedro Pascal.
