In The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special, what Rocket Raccoon got as a Christmas present was Bucky’s arm. A lot of questions have been surfacing since this and the most relevant ones are :
Is this the real bionic arm of Bucky? ,
If yes, where did Nebula get it from? ,
How did Bucky lose his arm? ,
If not, where did this replica come from?
Bucky Barnes and Rocket Raccoon initially met in Avengers: Infinity War. Rocket asked Bucky how much would Bucky take for his gun. The latter turned down the question by saying that the gun is not for sale. Later Rocket could be seen asking the Winter Soldier how much he would take for his bionic arm.
The Christmas Present by Nebula is viewed as an incredible gag that pays off to the reference from the Avengers: Infinity War interaction between Raccoon and Bucky. The Christmas present arm is assumed as the Vibranium-made Wakandan Design.
How Nebula managed to pull this off is wondering fans all around. The arm could be a replica but there are extraordinary but possible ways by which Nebula would have gone through to get the real bionic arm. She could have managed to get it because she is linked to the Avengers: Endgame. However, this stands no chance to affect Bucky’s future in the MCU. His character has confirmed roles in the upcoming series.
Bucky had not one, but two different bionic arms. One was made by Hydra while the other was made by the Wakandans. This opens up the possibility of Bucky changing his arm. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it was shown that there is a failsafe in Bucky’s vibranium arm so that the Wakandans can disable it anytime.
Nebula had spent her 5-year time jump between Infinity War and Endgame with the other remaining Avengers. Okoye was also a part of this. Therefore she might have been able to get the real one but if it’s the real Vibranium one, the Wakandans could replace it with a more powerful one.
This could only be considered as the least probability. The more agreeable option would be to consider that what Nebula has gifted is just a replica. As she has new allies in Avengers: Endgame she could have easily managed to get a perfect copy of Bucky’s arm from them. That way can save her from all the weirdness of just taking away the real arm.
Whether what Rocket received is the real bionic arm or not there could not be a more perfect and on-the-point settlement for the Avengers: Infinity War joke. Bucky Barnes was more of a reserved and uptight character in his earlier appearances in the Captain America series, before Captain America: Civil War. In a contrast to these, in Infinity War his character could be seen blending more with the others of the MCU universe.
Bucky was seen picking up and spinning Rocket Raccoon in a circle to battle the outriders of Thanos who were making attempts to take away his arm.
Nebula giving the Christmas present to Rocket could be viewed as an attempt from the MCU creators to amalgamate the different paradigms and parallel universes within the huge universe of Marvel.
Many are not considering the Christmas Present arm as the real one because of the pre-established fact that Bucky still has his arm. If it is the real arm it would also be a tremendous challenge to MCU’s future and upcoming movies and series.
Marvel has already announced many new characters in their D23 2022 event. The most awaited one would be Thunderbolt films. New visual representations illustrating Bucky with his human and bionic arms were also released. His bionic arm is his most powerful weapon and is iconic like many other weapons possessed by other characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special contains numerous MCU Easter Eggs and references. The old one-shots are back again and in the new style they are known as “feature presentations”. As part of the Christmas Holiday Special, horror was introduced by Werewolf By Night.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is a fun-filled portrayal of Mantis and Drax traveling to Earth and kidnapping Kevin Bacon. Bacon was later presented as the Christmas Present for the Star-Lord. The story could be seen as an epilogue to Phase 4 of MCU.
Marvel showed off unseen footage from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Trailers of the awaited projects Loki Season 2, Secret Invasion, and Echo were also released.
Sonya Falsworth, Gravik, Werewolf by Night, Ulysses Bloodstone, Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, The Hood, and Sabra are the new characters confirmed at the expo.
