Esquire’s 2022 Car Of The Year Is Hyundai IONIQ 5

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 added another prestigious award to its increasing collection by being named Esquire’s Car of the Year this month.

Every year, Esquire editors test drive and assess a wide range of automobiles, including SUVs, supercars, and pure electric vehicles, to select one Car of the Year that stands out for its incredible design, distinctive innovation, and societal impact.

The electronic IONIQ 5 comes with the best-in-class ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes under ideal charging conditions. It is a design inspired by Hyundai’s 45 EV concept and an available driving range of more than 300 miles with chosen RWD models.

Hyundai updates the IONIQ 5’s equipment subtly enough to raise some of its EPA ratings even though it only made its debut last year. The EPA has increased the range estimated for all-wheel drive versions from 256 miles to 266 miles.

Additionally, their MPGe ratings have slightly increased. All versions now come with a battery heating system and a preconditioning feature.

With a blend of retro and futuristic design, the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 stands out from the competitors. In contrast to competitors like Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y, it recently made its debut for 2022 and quickly scooped up a tonne of honours.

The incredible design, advanced technology and robust quality are the major elements that offer close to luxurious comfort and convenience in IONIQ 5.

The Major Pros And Cons

Pros

  • An acceleration boost is provided by a dual-motor engine
  • A smooth ride
  • A pleasant indoor design
  • Outstanding fuel efficiency
  • Incredibly quick DC fast-charging times

Cons

  • Somewhat reduced rear visibility
  • The trunk and back storage are smaller compared to other vehicles
  • No wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Pricing And Details

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is offered in four price ranges:

  • Standard range 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 SE – $39,950
  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 SE – $44,000
  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 SEL – $46,250
  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 Limited – $51,100

With a standard range battery and rear-wheel drive, the 2022 IONIQ 5 starts at slightly over $40,000. Nevertheless, we believe the SEL trim, which has a 320-hp dual-motor setup and an EPA-rated 256-mile driving range, is the one to choose.

It also has a larger battery pack. A hands-free power liftgate, faux-leather seats, ambient inside lighting, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, and more are included as standard.

Other Features

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Most of the safety tests gave it a good rating, the best possible result. Because the warning for wearing seat belts isn’t loud enough, they received a marginal rating.

This car received a Superior rating for its ability to avoid crashes at 12 and 25 mph speeds. The IONIQ 5 gave a warning roughly 2.3 seconds before collision when Travelling.

The Hyundai 2022 IONIQ 5 is simple, cosy and entertaining with a range of settings to match your mood. Starting things off is the SE model, which has a single engine that produces 168 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. In all other variants, it offers 225 hp. The power is increased to 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque with AWD.

The AWD in the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 can be pushed too far in the wild. It only has 6.1 inches of ground clearance. Light off-roading vehicles have a clearance of at least eight inches.

The spacious, thickly padded front seats provide hours of comfort. You may also stretch out in the driver’s seat due to an extended leg rest. For naps and breaks, the front seats are quite reclined.

Without any fuss, two adults can fit in the back. Even though the seats are comfortable and supportive, taller people may wish for a bit more legroom. The backrest also has a comfortable angle.
