Brandon Miller is an American basketball coach. Before becoming a coach, Brandon had proven his talent as a basketball player, as he used to play college basketball for teams like the Butler Bulldog men’s team which represented Butler University in Indianapolis and also the Missouri State Bears basketball team which played for the Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.
After being a significant part of the team, Brandon Miller served as the head coach for the Butlers. He held the position for one season, which was from 2013 – 2014.
After serving as the head coach for the season, Brandon took leave from the team. The reason for his leave has been stated as a medical emergency and the team has not revealed any details regarding his medical issue with respect to Miller’s privacy.
Miller was hoping to make a return to his position as the head coach of the team but in 2015, the team authorities made it clear that Brandon Miller will not be returning as the head coach of the team and his position was taken up by Chris Holtman.
Brandon Miller – Early Life
Born on May 21, 1979, Brandon Miller was the son of Roger Miller and Terry Miller. He was the middle child and had an older brother and a younger sister. People who recall his childhood often picture Brandon Miller as someone who was very competitive.
Brandon grew up with basketball and his passion and interest in the game mainly came from his father Roger Miller. Roger used to work as a teacher and he was also an assistant basketball coach at New Castle Chrysler High School.
Right from his childhood, it was clear that Brandon was very passionate about basketball. According to his father’s statements, Brandon was already trying very hard to excel at the game as early as eight or nine years of age.
Brandon became an official part of the New Castle Chrysler basketball team in the time period of 1994-95. What made his entry into the team stand out was the fact that while no sophomores made it to the team which had many senior and junior players flowing in, Brandon, who was a freshman, was able to make it into the final team.
The game he played for his school earned him respect and his young talent was recognized by the authorities he was selected to the All-States team as an honorable man. He also made it as a member of the Junior All-Star Squad.
As his high school basketball career came to an end, Brandon Miller became the first New Castle player to have won the North Central Conference championships two times.
His career to date had an impressive record of 1,066 points scored, a 60-11 record as a starter, and also semi-state appearances three times.
Brandon Miller – College Career And Coaching
Right after completing high school, Miller was destined to keep playing basketball. He was recruited by Steve Alford, who is one of the popular college basketball coaches. With Alford, Miller was signed to the Southwest Missouri State Bears and he played with the team for one season.
After the season, Alford left the team to take a job as head coach in Iowa, and with Alford leaving the team, Miller also decided to leave the team and join the Butlers so that he could be closer to home.
Miller had to sit out a year due to the rules of being a transfer student and he joined the Butlers officially for the 2000-01 season. With the team, Miller took up the position of starting point guard.
Miller played with the Butlers and had been a crucial part of the team in almost every match and he has also helped them to emerge victorious in many matches. As a basketball player, Miller is known for his unconventional style of playing.
Throughout his playing career, Miller also received many recognitions for his talent and his outstanding performance.
He was awarded titles like ‘Most Outstanding Male Athlete’ for his senior performance and he also won the Cecil M. Coleman Medal of Honor, which is one of the highest individual honors of the Horizon League.
Brandon Miller started his career as a basketball coach as a video intern at the Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball team which represented Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Thad Matta, who was the head coach of Xavier mentioned that Miller played an important part in the initial wins of the team in his seasons. After serving with Xaviers, Miller joined the Butlers and he was able to guide the team into multiple victories during his term as a coach.
Brandon Miller decided to quit his job as a basketball coach after the 2010-11 seasons. The reason behind his decision was he missed out on many important events with his family and in his son’s life. Miller sorted his priorities and decided to take a break from the world of basketball.
Upon quitting the job, Miller took up a job at Forest Pharmaceuticals. Brandon spent around nine months away from the court and he said he was happy but eventually he started missing basketball. This motivated him to return to the sport.
Miller spent almost a year off the sport and he returned as a special coaching assistant for John Groce, who was the head coach of the Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball team. Finally, in 2013, Brandon Miller joined the Butlers as an assistant coach under Brad Stevens.
It was the same year that Steven decided to leave Butlers so as to join the Boston Celtics as their coach.
With the vacancy created by Stevens, Miller was promoted to the head coach of the team. The decision to promote Miller as the head coach received numerous good responses from prominent basketball coaches and associates.
But in 2014, Miller made a sudden decision to quit his position as the head coach and the reason behind quitting was some unspecified medical issue.
In the following year, in 2015, the team made it clear that Brandon Miller will not be returning as the head coach for the team.

Brandon Miller – Personal Life And Family
Miller took his leave from basketball owing to his medical conditions. Further details about the condition have not been made clear by Miller or the team authorities. It was only said that it was something serious as it prompted Miller to take leave from what he loved the most – basketball.
For Brandon Miller, his family is something that he cherished the most and one of the major reasons he took a break from his career earlier was to spend more time with them. Even though he is a very fierce coach on the court, Miller is described as a very down-to-earth person outside the court.
Brandon Miller is married to Holly and the couple has two kids together from their marriage. Their elder son is named Mason Allena their younger son is named Michael David.
The two kids have an age gap of two years. It is said that Miller and his wife Holly used to know each other from a very young age as they first met each other in eighth grade.
