Despite receiving more than 100 recruitment letters, Scott received few scholarship offers from colleges due to his low SAT scores. Later, Scott raised his exam results to maintain his eligibility. Thus he got a scholarship at Southern Illinois University.

After becoming a professional football player, he returned to his high school and sponsored new uniforms and equipment in 2005. In 2007, he gave money to the school to improve their weight room.

Bart Scott’s Career

Football Career In College

Scott played linebacker and safety for the Southern Illinois Salukis football team at Southern Illinois University. During his junior days, he had some issues with their defensive coordinator and was suspended from the team for the final six games of that season.

Towards the end of the year, the entire coaching staff of the team was fired and Scott came back to the game then.

With 127 tackles and 5.5 sacks in his senior season, Scott led the team and was named the first team of the gateway Conference.

Jerry Kill, their head coach was pretty impressed by Scott and he suggested Scott to several NFL organisations. The only team that was sent out to Scott was the Baltimore Ravens.

Scott made an impression on the scout, and three days after the 2002 NFL Draft, Scott signed a deal with the Ravens despite going undrafted.

Scott eventually went back to Southern Illinois in 20055 to complete his academics and earned his degree in economics.

Professional Career As A Footballer

In 2002, Scott signed a contract with the Baltimore Ravens, which marked the beginning of his professional career as a footballer.

Scott was impressive to everyone in the team for the first three years after the contract with Baltimore Ravens. He didn’t spend much time on defence, though.

In his rookie season, he participated in all 16 games of the regular season, recording five defensive tackles and one interception while sharing the team lead with another player in special teams tackles with 17.

On September 8, 2002, he played his first NFL game for the Carolina Panthers. After playing for years with the Baltimore Ravens, he left the team in 2009.

Scott was a free agent in 2009 and was in demand from both the Ravens and the New York Jets. On February 27, 2009, Scott agreed to a six-year contract of $48 million with the Jets after the team modified its first offer by adding a year.

In his debut season with New York, Scott started every game and recorded 92 tackles and a sack.

Scott’s final two years with the New York Jets were marked with controversies and struggles both on and off the field. Scott was released by the Jets on 19 February 2013.

In November 2017, it was announced that Scott would take over for longtime WFAN presenter Mike Francesa during the afternoon drive, along with Chris Carlin and Maggie GRay.
